Apostoloc girl I am aware of those enslavements, however it is hard for me to come to grips with these same americans which enslaved us as well, back in those early americas black peoples bones werent ever allowed to be buried ne where near white peoples bones, and now I am to except the God of those who treated blacks with no respect, during slavery days do you think those slave owners envisioned a heaven where black people were? Since we were taught by those same hands its hard for me to except their teachings I know that its real, i've sat in church and cried uncontrollably so I do believe, just not the traditional way. Sorry

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Hello. I am happy to hear that you are interested in Islam. I think the best thing you can do is arm yourself with information. Considering becoming Muslim is a momentous decision. I would recommend, if at all possible, that you go to an Islamic Center in your area to learn from real live people about Islam. It should be a Sunni mosque, because there are deviant groups in the US that claim to be Muslim but they are not. I would say find a brother who can offer you books and classes on Islam. The fundamentals of Islam are very simple, but the details are many.

First and foremost, take your time in learning. There is no such thing as "Instant Muslim, just add water". Islam was revealed over the course of 23 years. Take it one lesson at a time and your sincerity will see you through.

There are some good sites online that you can utilize. I have given links below. May Allah bless you and guide you to that which is best in this world and the next. Ameen.

Fi Aman Allah,

Thinking About Converting To Islam

2017-01-14 04:37:41 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Praise to God. First of all I commend your interest and hope you will read this response as I have put true sincerity into it.

To become Muslim all u have to say is "There is no God but God and Muhamad is His messenger." Then I suggest you read QUran (with supplemental historical context). Often verses are portrayed as distorted and out of context. I encourage books like 'Muslim Christian Dialogue,' 'Tell Me about Islam,' 'A brief Illustrated guide to Islam' etc.

My biggest bit of advice (ironically) is to not believe what Muslims tell u about Islam (not even me). The main source of problems in Islam are hadith! (They aren;t even the protected words of God, but rather accounts of the prophet written by his companions. Remember, men are likely to err. I used hadiths that supplement the QUran or have a good moral message, NOT as a source of law..usually).

WHat makes u think ur conclusions should be any less founded than ours (born Muslims)? Sometimes the new convert has a more educated view than a Muslim who has been Muslim his whole life. By entering Islam you are on the same journey as the rest of us. I wish u the best.

And in response to Apolostic. She is very ignorant of what the prophet is reported to have said in his final sermon (AHEM 1500 years AGO):

Alhamdulillah..
Thank you for at last you have seen the light of Allah..
To be a Muslim, you first proclaim the Shahadah which is:
"Ashadu Alla Ilaha Illa Allah Wa Ashadu Anna Muhammada Rasulullah." This translated is "I testify that there is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is His Messenger."

Alhamdulillah! Now you have completed the first Pillar of Islam!

The Pillars of Islam are Five and they are:

1) The Shahadah or "proclamation." This is what I just explained above. By proclaiming this Shahadah, you have already become a Muslim. But does that mean that we can simply turn back and proclaim back this? No. When you have become a Muslim, you are to become a Muslim for your entire life. And those who DO turn back, Allah alone Knows their Fate.

2) The "Salah" or "prayer." Allah S.W.T has commanded every Muslim to pray five times daily. I am afraid I cannot explain here because it would a bit long and hard to read. I will send the description of the Muslim prayer Insya Allah soon.

3) The "Sawm" or "fasting." This means to fast from dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadan. One of the reasons we do this is to remember how the poor suffer and appreciate what Allah has bestowed upon us.

4) The "Zakat" or "giving alms." This is to give 1/3 of your wealth collected anually to the poor. By this way, we remember the poor and help our Muslim brothers and sisters.

5) The "Hajj" or "pilgrimage." This is a once in a lifetime pilgrimage to the Holy City Mecca and complete the rituals througout the Hajj time. The Hajj months are Dhulkaedah and Dhulhijjah. This is when millions of Muslims gather together wearing only white, seamless clothes (the seamless clothes applies to men, women may wear normal clothes). They gather in humbleness, forgetting all worldly affairs and asking for forgiveness from Allah.

To apolitic girl or whatever, didn't the Americans made black slavery legal once ago?
And didn't Christians missionaries forced Christianity on Africans?

May Allah guide us all..

Islam is also a cultural phenomenon that will be difficult for a Westerner to assimilate. Societies where Islamic fundamentalism is practiced have aspects that are often worse then pre-civil rights America.

If you wish to practice Islam, be very careful in choice of teacher, and study as much as you can on your own. You must be open minded when studying Islam and read both traditional and modern authors and experts including scholars whose critiques of aspects of Islam are irrefutable.

God is all knowing and wise, and would like you to know as much as you can, and make good choices in your life. Developing intellectual strength is in harmony with the practice of Islam, and many other forms of being one with God.

first iam so happty for u , congradulations and welcome to islam brother :D

to convert to islam you simply say and believe that there is No God except Allah and that Mohammad is his Messenger. Once you say this sentence, you automatically become Muslim. From there, you start carrying on with the duties of Islam. You must do what Allah and His messenger tell you to, and stay away from what they tell you to. Islam does not tell you to do anything unless it is good for you. It also does not tell you to stay away from anything unless it is bad for you. You will notice the change in the way you look at things, the minute you become a Muslim.
To become a Muslim, simply say the following words:

Ash hadu alla ilaha illa Allah, wa ash hadu anna Mohammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu.

This means I testify and witness that there is no god worthy of being worshipped other than Allah and that Mohammad is his Messenger. You must say it and believe in it.

but u really should decide to become Muslim after reading, understanding, and being convinced, then u r greatly rewarded for it in this life and the next. And if that decision encourages others to join Islam too, then the reward is doubled: one portion for your own decision (multiplied many times), and an equal portion for the person you have helped guide to God's path with reason and gentle advice. If that person is a family member, the reward multiplies even more, since Islam places a great value on family stability and strengthening marital bonds.

you don’t absolutely have to do it publicly. After all, Islam is, first, about your relationship with your Creator and, second, about your relationship with others. However, it is a good idea to pronounce the Shahadah (testimony of faith) before one or more Muslim witnesses—or even by phone or Internet through some Web sites—because there are some legal ramifications in the case of your death, such as issues of burial and inheritance from you. I hope that does not frighten you, but Muslims must always keep in mind that they can die at any minute. None of us has any guarantee that we will live to see tomorrow. And, of course, if you ever get the chance to make Hajj—which I hope you will some day—you might need some documentation that you are Muslim in order to get a visa.

The salah is what distinguishes a Muslim from a non-Muslim, so it is essential that you learn to perform salah as soon as possible. You may have to change your sleeping habits a bit so that you can get up in time for the Fajr (dawn) Prayer, and it might take some ingenuity to find the time or place to pray at work. But it is so vital for your relationship with Allah.
For some the salah seems like a burden, but it only takes a total of perhaps 45 minutes a day. It is also refreshing—physically and spiritually—so it can actually help you to be better in your work; it should never be thought of as a waste of time.

My last piece of advice to you, is not to let yourself be overwhelmed by all the new things you have to learn as a new Muslim. Be easy on yourself—but not lax. Allah doesn’t expect you to change overnight. But be steady (and slow) in your efforts. Improve yourself gradually. Don’t try to suddenly make too many lifestyle changes at one time; especially don’t throw yourself into doing many extra voluntary acts of worship. Learn the essentials, perform the essentials, and then gradually increase.

MABROOK! Alhamdulillah,
look up online where your nearest Mosque is and talk to an Imam. That would be best. I was wondering how your wife feels about all of this. Is she converting too or is she researching?
Are you going to send your kids to Islamic classes? I got registered in one of Cairo's Mosques and got a certified documentation of my Islam.
Go to an Islamic center and register yourself into classes.

All I can say is, I hope you have actually studied the Qur'an word for word before making this decision because you do not know what you're getting in to. It's completely different from Christianity and you just need to be aware of the religion and how it works. I'm not going to say anything mean but I just hope God shows you the right path.

Oh, and you don't 'convert' to Islam...you 'revert'. Muslims believe everyone is born truly muslim. By the way, you would need to go to a mosque and speak to an Imam about 'reverting'.
