When men go to a job interview for a sales assistant position in which they have to wear a shirt and tie, should they wear a shirt and tie to the interview? I had an interview for Primark and I wore a shirt without a tie. Wad this OK or not?

i think you should have worn a tie, however i went to a job fair on Friday and Saturday for a new JCPenny store and was amazed by the number of younger people who showed up in jeans and flip flops! they were hiring over 120 people over those two days so its pretty much guaranteed if you go to the fair you are going to be interviewed.

It usually creates a better impression if you do wear a tie , even if the job does not require one .
You should always try to look as smart and well presented as possible as first impressions count a great deal in this situation , it could be the difference from making the short list , and not .
When I interview prospective male staff , and they haven't got a tie on , I would always mention that a tie was expected as part of the dress code . If they were selected for second interview and still did not wear a tie , then unless they really stood out in other ways the job would probably go to another candidate

I don't think the fact that you were not wearing a tie for this interview will affect your chances providing that you looked smart and spoke politely.
If you were going for a more high profile job then yes you would need to wear a tie.

You should dress professionally for every interview, regardless of what the dress code will be for the job. You want to make a good, lasting impression on the interviewer, and that starts with your appearance. I'd be sure to include a tie.

You should have worn a shirt and tie with a jacket or a suit would have been even better. You should always dress a little "over" for interviews.

As a rule of thumb, dressing in a suit for an interview wouldn't do you any harm. You must be able to capture the tailored look, but in a feminine manner. Double breasted in navy or black, perhaps softened with a scarf rolled under the collar, its a classic which will never be out of style...

Appearances are everything in interviews.

Doesn't matter what position you are going for, if you want it, wear a shirt and tie.

shirt , tie and jacket would have been a plus might have given you the edge. if you are a strong candidate, you might , get it, but it could have been a done deal if you came in strong and dressed appropriate.
