Hi,

Moved into an old house and found 4 paintings. 3 of them are signed "B.C. Miner" One of those is dated 1951. The 3 B.C. Miner paintings are all of flowers/fruit.

The other is signed "Louise Umstead". On the back is written "Emma Louise Umstead - Collegeville, PA 1944".
That painting is of a drama mask and flowers.

I have a feeling B.C. Miner may be Gilber B. Miner. Simply because that was an artist from this area, and that era. But no way of knowing.

Ive been searching like crazy but don't know what to do next. Is there any chance they have value?

I appreciate any help!

Hi! I found nothing on Umstead or B. C. Miner. These could have been local pieces or works of family members...you might want to go to your new local library and do some detective work... librarians are amazing! Also.. try the established art galleries in town, area art associations, they may lend a clue. Just a note: Gilbert B. Miner (1910 - 1999) Long Island. Belonged to the Peconic Art Colony*. Impressionist. Landscapes and seascapes.
If you're of a mind that they may be of value.. just call an auction house... or send them some photos.
I wish you good luck!

You could take the paintings to a local antique dealer. If the painters were local, they may be familiar with their work. A trip to the local historical society wouldn't hurt either. One of the artists, or a relative of theirs, might have previously owned your house.

By the way, artists usually have parents and children and siblings. Don't assume Gilbert and B.C. are the same person.
