For those of you how have hired middle level management or are in HR. I have changed jobs about every two years for the past 6 years. I am in manufacturing. Each company that I have worked for has gone through plant closings and slow downs while I have been there. I have never lost my job but there has not been any room to move up either. I am now in the process of interviewing with a company that has lots of long term employees. I have a job that I have been at for 2 years. I am looking because they are asking me to move to another plant a very long way from where I am now. I am 34 with 3 kids and a stay at home wife. Now, the job that I am interviewing for is the #2 guy at a manufacturing plant. I will be talking with the plant manager sometime this week. He is a 30 year employee!! My biggest obstacle is my job change history. Any advice on how to overcome this?

You don't have anything to apolgize for. Explain it the way you did here, and stress that one of the major things you are looking for in your next job is a very stable company so this won't happen again, that you want to stay with the same company long-term.

Good luck.

You can't change the past, and the truth is, your job changes didn't come from your lack of loyalty or not doing a good job. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about. Just tell the truth. Get some great letters of reference (preferably from top management) and pray about it. If it is meant to be, it will happen, if not it won't. I'm sure you'll do fine. My husband worked for manufacturing also. Truth is, it is a volatile business, small plants struggle to make it and not many jobs are available in that field. They are well aware of that. Good luck!

As an HR professional, I understand your concern about frequent job changes. If asked, explain it just as you have in your question. Actually, you really aren't a job hopper. Most folks who have 20-30 years with the same company have changed jobs within the company every few years.

Be truthful about the slowdowns and the resulting lack of opportunity. Let him know that you're excited about the potential you have at this new company. Let him know what your long range plans are & how you see yourself fitting in there and how you see yourself benefitting their organization.
