Usee: The Bible is a Holy Book penned by people, who were under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Since it is "Holy Spirit influenced", it requires the Holy spirit to decipher it. God gives the Holy Spirit to those He draws or calls to Him (John chapter 6, verse 44 re: this "calling") . The Holy Spirit is what makes a Christian a "Christian" and distinguishes a Christian from a non-believer. The natural (or "carnal") mind does not have the Holy Spirit to work with it; therefore, it can not possibly comprehend the Holy scriptures, as intended by God. (see: Romans, chapter 8, verse 7) . God gave all of us a "carnal" or natural mind but left in the current state it is in, God cannot work with it to bring it to the degree of spiritual comprehension nor spiritual maturity that He would like. Take heart though, eventually, ALL humans will have their "taste" of having their minds imbued with the Holy Spirit and therefore, given the opportunity for a relationship with God, the Father, through Jesus Christ, and totally comprehend the Holy scriptures in spite of all the preconceived ideas, prejudice, and biases opinions he or she once held. Great question !!!

P.S. "deacon" hits the proverbial "nail" right on the ol' head with his response !!!

The Holy Spirit will guide you to all truth in or out of the bible. Jesus did not finish teaching the disciples everything. The rest is in the gnostic gospels.

Well in actuality there are no real contradictions or bizarre myths in the Bible. Its just the corrupt O.R. (organized religions) that push misinterpretations based on the 17th century King James translation down your collective throats.

The KJV is King "Stuart" James I/VI idea to solidify power for himself in Old England. He used OLD ENGLISH. He eliminated God's ACTUAL holy name over 6,800 times out of superstition! His name is N-O-T just LORD or GOD! Try looking it up at Exodus 6:3 and Ps. 83:18. Who said up there that the KJV was NEVER changed??? And BTW can you read Old English? Didn't think so. Modern English is so much easier to understand and not get confused by meanings of OE words. That leads to false contradictions and seeing myths that don't exist.

In actuality the TRUE Bible (i.e. all 66 books and letters) is inspired by God and is good for reproving, setting things straight, and all sorts of lessons for mankind. It is the evil ones and the incompetent pious ones who allow the masses to see myths in there that are not really there. Like 6 literal creative days, hellfire, trinity, immortality of the soul, pagan holidays, the rapture, etc.

It is all mostly based on Emperor Constantine's 4th century CE manipulations to gain total power of the known world. He modified so much of the scriptures even then to win over pagan converts to his new UNIVERSAL church he called "Catholica" in Latin. He even perpetuated the myth that Peter was the true father of this false church and not actually himself. Later in time Martin Luther just modified this general false theme slightly to give birth to Protestantism - IOW O.R..

So you see O.R. is responsible for your misunderstandings and confusion of the scriptures. However, I'm sure somebody will sit down with you one day and help you with your O.R.-born confusions. Try asking the next friendly group of people you see who appear to be very biblically oriented in your neighborhood, downtown, or at work. You probably won't have to look too far. They'll probably have God's actual name somehow attached to theirs.

Let this Yahoo Answer question be the FIRST inquiry out your mouth. And when they try and answer it you try to listen with an open mind and follow along with your bible too. If you're really sincere about this quest for knowledge I'm sure you'll find what your seeking.

And NO you don't have to be FILLED with holy spirit to understand the Bible. You just have to have an open mind to understand even what the holy spirit ACTUALLY is and not O.R.'s mythical version. I hope you start your search for the truth ASAP...

by means of "non-evangelical", do you recommend us, Kait? simply by fact i've got been examining and interpreting Scripture as a believer the vast majority of my grownup existence, first as an evangelical and now as a Catholic. And enable me make it easier to comprehend -- the Spirit remains, in spite of everything those years, exhibiting me further and extra in the pages of the word. I in no way initiate examining without first praying that He shows me what He needs me to correctly known -- and He does. To insist that basically a definite "style" of believer is able to comprehend-how God's word, or entitled to call upon the Holy Spirit to be guided in the actuality, isn't basically particularly exclusivist yet additionally looks to place obstacles on the Spirit. while Jesus informed the disciples "I actual have lots extra to make it easier to comprehend, yet you could not undergo it now. yet while he comes, the Spirit of reality, he will handbook you to all reality.", He became additionally speaking to us. What i could "not undergo", or perhaps hold close, 15 to 2 many years in the past or perhaps final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, i'm able to now. that's the comparable for each believer. only simply by fact which you could not convince a "non-evangelical" of your reasoning from Scripture does not recommend evangelicals have an interior music that the rest human beings neglected; it ability the Spirit is guiding each and each believer in reality, as she or he would be in a position to undergo it. you could paint photos, draw diagrams, repeat a verse persistently lower back and say "won't be in a position to you spot it?", yet -- and this is going for all believers -- in the event that they don't, it in all probability ability you weren't meant to be the single to persuade them. i did not convert to Catholicism on a whim. For somewhat an prolonged time I intentionally refused to "pay attention" what the Lord became of course saying, even though it became very sparkling that this became the place He wanted me. And so I made His will mine, and here i'm. Does that recommend I actual have forfeited the guidance of the Holy Spirit in comprehend-how Scripture? i think of not. Sorry, my sister; I appreciate you a great deal yet i think of you're off the mark in this one.

1 Corinthians 2:13-15 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

That's what they tell you so that you'll believe there's something wrong with you rather than with the writings when they don't make sense or contradict one another.

It sounds as though you've been asking questions that the questioned can't answer...
