What type of hamster? Keeping dwarf hamsters together is fine but if you put syrians together they would probably kill each other. 'Becasue I said so' is not a reasonable answer and so tell them this. Say that you would really like them, you would look after them properly, pay for all food etc, and that 'because I said so' is not reasonable. Ask them why they don't want you to have one and then if they answer reasonably don't push it.

Win them over.
A hamster is a good pet but the care remains with you. It is a fulltime 24 hrs 7 days a week care, like a child.
You have to buy hamster food, vitamins, drink containers, toys, and clean out the cages at least once every two days, because if you dont, it reeks from the feces and urine.
Your mom and dad both know that all of these extra chores will fall on them.
WIn them over by telling them you know about all the work that goes into caring for hamsters.
Good luck.

HI,
you do not say how old you are,
perhaps your parentswould like you to spend the money on something else,
as with hamsters, you pay for the cage and the hamster, but you will need to still pay for the food, bedding, sawdust, and trips to the vets.
If you are at school it would be your parents who would have to look after them, and they do keep you awake at night.
Perhaps it might be better to ask them again in 6 months time.

Hi, Probably because your parents are concerned about you looking after your hamsters, did they have to keep telling you to clean them out?. Two hamsters should never be kept in the same cage, they fight as they get older. Don't disobey your parents find something else to spend your money on.

you wont just a cge and a hammie you will need
With that said your going to neeed
-cage
-water bottle
-food
-food dish
-bedding
-litter
-tubes
-chew toys
-ball
-toys
-a place for your hammy to sleep (igloo, house, ect)
-some wood chavings (NOT for bedding but play area)
-some treats (you can get chew toys with treats in the center)
most cages come with a water bottle, wheel, some tubes(you still need to buy more), and some with food or a brush
and you have to be willing to spend lots of time a day with it and clean its cage 1-3 times a wk and spott cleaning every day. its actully quiet understandable why your parents would say no hamsters are a big responsibility. Try doing stuff around the house you would not normaly do and do your chores without being asked to show you are responsibe enough to handle a hammy.
best of luck!!

if you still want a hamster you are probably not even old enough to buy an animal. the cage and animals are not the expensive part, its the food and caring for the animals. also they are probably worried that you will not look after it and it will be a burden on them.

and will you buy the food and clean the cage and pay for the vet when it is sick and buy new bedding..and animal is an undertaking and in most cases the responsibilty gets dumped on the parents....ask them how you can show them you are responsible enough to take on this task....and keep in mind it may be a money issue right now for your parents...dont push it to hard..

I don't think its the money - could be they don't like hamsters !?
maybe they want you to spend it on something else or save it?
In my opinion most hamsters are grumpy, bite and are escape artists - maybe your parents don't want you to spend all that money to be disappointed.

First, how old are you? If your young, you will probably only look after if for a little while, then your parents will take over. We have all been there, done that!

Just say "I'll look after it and I'll use my own money and you don't even have to look at it if you don't want to" Also say you'll keep it in your own room.
Good luck. I know how tough it is to pursuade parents sometimes x
