i am amuslim and i am neither sunni not shia
sunnis are killing shias becuz they beieve they are not muslim due to the varying of their beliefs
thats the short story i wont go into detail its complicated

War of the big-endians and little-endians.
Several generations on from Mohammed there was a dispute about who should lead the moslems.
Most followed the Caliphs and follow Sunnism
Smaller party followed Ali or Husein.
There was a brutal slaughter prior to the split so there is bitterness between the two branches.
Shia moslems have developed differently, and are organised differently. Extreme sunnis don't seem to recognise Shias as muslims.

Because they are part of an absolute belief system. My version of the holy book is the right one. But Christians use violence too. "I can do what i want because i have the backing of God!", kinda mentality.
America and the 'west' has become very secular in the last 250 years, but this kind of thing has happened in the 'west' too.
