According to a book on engineering I started to read when I was about 11 years old, "When an irresistible force collides with an immovable object, there is an inaudible sound" (or words to that effect). I wanted to be an engineer, like my father, but the educational system in the 1970's was so retarded, girls couldn't become engineers - they were taught shorthand, typing and double-entry bookkeeping. However, I digress.

What, I hear you ask, does that have to do with screaming? Well, when I grew up I realised that some things in life were so painful (emotionally painful, that is) that the scream I emitted was silent. No-one could hear me, or understand the pain. I felt very lonely.

You will all be pleased to know I got over it, and am now more or less normal (whatever that is). These days, if I feel a need to scream, everyone hears it! (LOL) Oh, and just to shoot myself in the foot, I'm going to stand up for Matt M and agree with him that God always hears, even if no-one else does. After all, this question was posted on the R & S site!

Scared! I used to live out in the middle of nowhere and when I'd come home in the dark I'd think "Man, if someone were to attack me right now, there is no one who would hear me scream!" and I'd RUN into the house!

Occasionally that is very useful.

Driving on an empty road at night is a good time to let out a theraputic scream.
Some things just can't be put into words, and then sometimes "AAARRRggghhhh!" is a surprisingly accurate summary.

Matt M "God can hear you scream"
Well he must be hard of hearing, millions of Jews, homosexuals, gypsies and those with mental health problems went unheard!

Relieved. Given the thin walls in my bedroom, the neighbours would be darn pleased.
