There are similarities, though --- if either a church or hedge fund gets into trouble they can just shut down and open a different one next week.

It depends on a position, but I've read that many range from $25k a year to $160k a year. I think it really depends on the denomination, the role of the minister, and the size of the church. And no, this doesn't even come close to successful hedge fund managers.

At the community I visited the monks were given $275 a year for personal expenses.Their food was either home grown or donated....According to the community liason, they receive 2 sets of robes and were allowed to keep a set of civilian clothes. they did have a working apiary, which produced furniture polish for sale---the proceeds going for up keep and the ministries of the community.

So, sure, I just bet all kinds of hedge funds managers are lining up for that kind of pay hike.

I've always wondered how much nuns make. I know it has to be more than what a couple of you have said because some of them own their own cars and have their own apartments. I think nuns can have regular jobs too, like teaching school, being a nurse, or practicing law. Not all nuns take a vow of poverty.

depending on the diocese a diocesean priest makes an average of $28K. nun's are about $10-$15 a month. other priests don't even make that and some others might nmake a little more - this is within the Roman Catholic Church though.
