It is OK to cry.
Just look up & ask God, "Why?".
Sometimes it could be about someone else closely associated to you. You should ask God who to pray for. Or you could be doubting Gods love for you or Gods high calling for your life. I know that if persecuted for ones faith by others, one can doubt God. This grieves the Holy Spirit. So? Then you should repent for not believing God Is who God says God Is. God has promised to never leave you or forsake you.
Also, crying can be healing from old hurts. Or it can be because you or someone you know is grieving the Holy Spirit. This could be as simple as gossiping about someone who is doing the work God has called & anointed someone to do. Always pray for those in ministry & not back talk them. Especially when the Holy Spirit is doing a miraculous work through their obedience.
Years ago, my Pastor went to a Benny Hinn Pastors teaching. And my Pastor was a bit critical. Then he got hit by a light & knocked over or nearly knocked over. After that, my Pastor was a changed man. And he spent a long time having periods of crying. But then he isn't critical of Gods anointed now. So, also, I am not to be critical of my Pastor, for he is anointed also.
The Holy Spirit is doing a work in you, & I just encourage you to spend time praying in spirit & truth in your prayer closet.
Submit to God, resist satan & satan flees.
Kim Clement has written books about the prophetic. http://www.kimclement.com . And also another prophetic web site is http://www.elijahlist.com . There is a move of God pouring out His Spirit today & many are having dreams & seeing visions.
Last night Kim Clement had the 'Secrets' Holiwood thing on http://us.god.tv/ last night. And he is very prophetic about the Church as a whole & US & the world.

it's because you've been burdened with the Word, and it scares you. i sometimes feel like i've been called to preach, and even though it doesn't make me cry, there are a lot of times when thinking about it makes me nervous or anxious. there are times when i lose sleep over it. there are other times when i can't concentrate on anything else. i know the persecution and the loneliness and the hardship i will probably have to go through. i know the ridicule i will face, and i know that if i go through with it, i will be judged more harshly than others.
the main thing, though, is that you're letting go of yourself, and you're moving into something new and strange. as much as following God's will is better for us, we're still more familiar with our natural selves. i went through a period of depression when i converted, and for me, that's what it was all about. even though my old ways were destructive, they were familiar. we cling to what is familiar, no matter how bad it may be for us, simply because it's familiar.

Be cautious what you have heard. Gifts from God are already perfect...they DO NOT need to be "developed" or "learned" or "practiced."
They just come and are there, meant for the building up of the body of Christ, NOT for personal use, as has been touted by some.
The answer to your question, I 100% believe you will find by reading your Bible. More than just the parts people bring to your attention.

I think your emotions are rooted in your childhood. Rather than only plowing through the bible for inspiration, I'd go back to your youth and analyse whether there's any old pain there. There often is. Good luck.

I thought i would try to encourage you. Reading down through here so many wrongly opinionated people are discouraging you. You are not a nut case you do not need a shrink, you are on your way it sounds to me to what you need (a closer relationship with Jesus) C.L Richardson seems to understand where you are going. I think her advise is good. Remember Jesus + religion= nothing. But Jesus+nothing =everything we need.

Listening to God isn't necessarily "the gift of the prophetic," it's simply listening to God.
The well of emotion comes when you're finally living God's will and doing what you're supposed to be doing.

Maybe he's allowing you to feel some of his grief. Prophets in the Bible often cried because they knew most of the world would reject God and choose hell. God loves the world. He doesn't want anyone to perish. His desire for us to go to heaven is greater than our own desire to go to heaven. So how much does it hurt him when we cast ourselves face-first into hell? I can only imagine.

You might have to fast and pray about this one!
God will make it clear to you when you are
ready to hear it.
There is so much at stake, so much
going on in our world at this time.
Some things can hardly be put to words,
but God will let you know what it is about.
Open your heart to hear!

God's love is the ultimate...when you are so near to Him, it can bring you to your knees and to tears.
Keep listening, keep learning!!
