By surrendering to The Absolute Truth. The Supreme Personality of Godhead Krishna says In the Gita that I am the source of all my Incarnations, ever thing emanates from Me, just as pearls are strung on a thread. As long as we don't accept what Krishna says and we think we know something better then we are holding on to our false ego. Our real ego or eternal identity is pure loving servant of God. IT all there in His Bhagavad Gita (SONG of GOD) as it is by Bhaktivedanta Prbhupada. If you could just read that and apply what Krishna says and give up this impersonal Brahman stuff you will get rid of your false ego,

You don't get rid of the Ego you make friends with your ego with your Soul

Your Soul will never lead you astray nor will it give you negative thoughts

However your Ego will create fear and anger in you to stop your Soul moving on for you own personal growth

Types of Ego
The id: It stands in direct opposition to the super-ego

Ego: Its task is to find a balance between primitive drives, morals, and reality while satisfying the id and superego

Super-Ego: tends to stand in opposition to the desires of the id because of their conflicting objectives, and is aggressive towards the ego.

Alter Ego: is a second self, a second personality or persona within a person.

Consciousness: is a characteristic of the mind generally regarded to comprise qualities such as subjectivity, self-awareness, sentience, sapience, and the ability to perceive the relationship between oneself and one's environment.

Egolessness: is an emotional state where one feels no ego (or self); of having no distinct being apart from the world around oneself.

Try Meditation
These are some of the benefits of meditation:

1. Improved concentration - A clear mind makes you more productive, especially in creative disciplines like writing.
2. Less bothered by little things - Do you sometimes allow yourself to get upset by little things? It is the nature of the mind to magnify small things into serious problems. Meditation helps us detach. We learn to live in the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or future. We do not worry about meaningless things, but see the bigger picture.
3. Better Health - There have been numerous studies pointing to the health benefits of meditation. The reason is that meditation reduces stress levels and alleviates anxiety. If we can reduce stress, many health benefits follow.
4. Knowledge of Self - Meditation enables us to have a deeper understanding of our inner self. Through meditation we can gain a better understanding of our life’s purpose.

Observe it's "effects" in reality which is mirroring your learned (ego) beliefs about self and the world. Contemplate, "What must I believe (subconsciously, of course) that is causing these external events (notice the patterns). It will be childish and sometimes complex, but if you can't identify it, you will not be able to trace it to its origin and reframe the childish belief in the light of adult reason. Only when that has been thoroughly accomplished will the external "effect" cease.

Our ego's thought system operates like a etched mind/body pattern projecting a 3D hologram. It's insanity is stored chemically in the body, as well, based on the emotional intensity of the original negative experience underlying the 'belief.'

Remember that you are NOT your feelings and thoughts, but are the OBSERVER of them. The power of this authentic Self (what you love) is buried under the ego's fears and attachments (defensive survival system) glued into consciousness with 'shame/guilt.' Reality cannot synchronize purely with the real you until the ego is eliminated.

There is no hope of controlling the ego enough to transform reality. The character Golem holding on to his 'precious/ring' is the perfect embodiment of ego deformity (Lord of the Rings). But, the ego can be as voraciously attached (addicted) to being 'good' at the expense of the True Self, as attached to overt destructive behavior. It's VERY tricky! Keep your sense of humor.

I read an article today about how to deal with shyness. The article said that shy people (I'm one of them!) constantly hold a metaphorical mirror. The constant focus on that reflection can inhibit one's openness.

I think that same principle can apply to egotism. After all, when I am insecure, I am very self-involved. Ego (unhealthy ego) is another manifestation of insecurity. So I try to get rid of the mirror.

I think it's there for a reason, just learn to control it. Having none is like being a 'soulless clone.' The script says, "Take up your cross..." We all have things to work on. Ego is a biggie. Some egos are too big in the mental area, some in the sexual area, some in the physique..., and yes, some are extra large in the religious department.

For one thing, it keeps one from jumping off a cliff if the notion should catch you.

Trying to get rid of ego or control ego only strengthens the ego.

You just have to realize the ego is a figment of your imagination. The more you think upon it...the more real it appears.

go to a country that has the poorest people on earth and help them out. I went to a mission trip to Mexico in a very small town with so many poor people. Most of the people there just lived in boxes and boards. That was their home and when I got home, I became so grateful for the things I had. I also became more humble to myself. And if you want to stop the ego, go to the Lord. He can change the heart in you. Are you willfully wanting to make that change?

It's impossible to get rid of the ego while still in 3D. The only way to get rid of it is to ascend.

It is incredibly difficult (almost impossible) to do. But, all it requires is a humble outlook. If you see that your own desires do not trump the desires of others, that your own relevance is not any greater than any other living thing, or that you have, for all your virtues, just as many vices, if not more. If you can see that your life is one among 6 billion others, for only a century out of so many billion years, on one measly planet of 9, circling a mediocre star near the center of one of billions of galaxies, you will understand exactly how much your life matters.
