Your pope is claiming to be God's representative on earth yet he doubts God's creation and gives credence to Satan's lies of evolution?

You know, when I read articles like the one you linked, I am so proud to be Catholic. Here is a man who is our worldwide pastor, finally and openly saying that science is not satanic. He is finally saying out loud what many of us who are both Christians and research scientists realized a long time ago. Nothing that we learn about the world through the scientific method is against God. When we understand something new, we gain new insights in the sheer brilliance and unimaginable complexity of this universe of God's creation.

Not only did the Pope acknowledge the validity of the (still vastly incomplete) work done in the field of evolutionary biology, he also highlighted global warming and came down firmly on the side of environmental responsibility. I've heard so many protestant ministers pooh-pooh the idea that we must be conscious of our impact on the environment, blindly and foolishly claiming that God will surely compensate for our irresponsibility, and that the faithful will all be raptured away from the problem before it gets bad. Whether or not either of these things comes to pass is immaterial. Scripturally speaking, humankind were made *stewards* of Creation. That gives us a duty to cherish and protect our beautiful planet; it does not give us the right to plunder and pillage its resources however we see fit. Good for Benedict for saying as much.

Reading some of the other answers, I am once again astonished at how little people know (or care to know) about Catholicism. The Pope is not someone we worship; he is our worldwide pastor. He is pastor to a congregation of over a billion people. We regard him as a holy man with a unique mandate and unique guidance from the Holy Spirit. Protestants are quick to denounce the idea of papal infallibility, but what they don't realize is that the circumstances under which a Pope's teachings can be considered infallible are so specific and rare that it has been at least 30 years (at least 3 popes) since the last occasion when a pope spoke ex cathedra. Other than that limited infallibility, Catholics are perfectly well aware that the Pope is just a man. We don't worship him any more than you worship the minister who leads your Sunday services.

After reading this article, I can truly say that I admire Benedict XVI. I've respected him because he is the Church's leader, but I've had my doubts about him, in all honesty. He just put several of those doubts to rest. Thanks for the link!

occasion: The scribes and pharisees blasphemed, or sinned against the Holy Spirit, Gods, energetic stress. Why grew to become into this? They worked against it with the aid of persecuting and killing Jesus, the 'chief Agent of existence', the Messiah, who taught God's fact (Joh. 18:37).. different than for that they favorite, and taught issues that have been against the will of the God of Abraham, Jehovah. Lesson: absolutely everyone, i.e. any organization or guy or woman that accepts or/and promotes fake teachings (teachings/practices which at the instant are not desirable to Almighty God) intentionally, is sinning against the Holy Spirit, God's energetic stress. those could locate out what the Bible somewhat teaches before it somewhat is purely too previous due. sort regards, Günter

Just because he is the Pope does not mean that he cannot have non theological opinions. He simply made an error in science. He is a theologian not a scientist and in my opinion he should stick to theology when making public statements. There is no sin in having opinions even if they have little scientific support. I really do not think the Popes opinion will change anyone else since he is NOT an authority on science.

For the record, I think evolution in its broad definition is nonsense as one with a degree in biology. Global warming is just speculation and exists only on imperfect computer models. I can be won over when there is real scientific evidence of global warming but it is going to take even more convincing science to show me that it is man-made and that there is something that man can do to reverse it after proving that global warming is not beneficial, which is still debated in the scientific community.

Contrary to some of the wild-eyed speculators, it is possible that global warming could end world hunger by making more of the world productive in agriculture. Not to mention the tourist industry in the US where New York city will become the new Venice with gondolas in the canals that were the former streets in lower Manhattan. Pretty cool huh!

The RCC teaches whatever they determine to get the most followers, history tells us. The Bible be thrown out quickly!

Just last week, the Pope came out supporting evolution AND creation despite what the Bible says.

In the past, they supported most of the pagan beliefs mixing in with Christianity becoming what Protestants swear is pure Christian beliefs. They did this to increase their holdings and power. Biblical orders had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Needless to say, The God of the Bible will have nothing to do with them.

shalei, how can you say you know the Catholic religion pretty well, yet nothing you said about it is accurate? Hail Marys are not for the forgiveness of sins. So already you've shown that you don't know the difference between penance and absolution.

Also, Catholics do not believe that it is okay to sin. However, we do sin everyday, just like everyone else, including YOU. At least we go to confession with contrite hearts, feeling regret and sorrow for our sins. It is the protestants who in their daily sinning believe it is okay because they are "already saved" and "no longer held accountable."

Also, if you had really "known" that you were truly in the physical presence of Jesus, receiving His actual body and blood..then you wouldn't have found the Mass to be "boring." And besides, we don't attend church to be "entertained"...we go to "worship" our Savior and receive Him as our spiritual nourishment.

If you're going to pretend that you know about something, at least throw in a few facts to make it believable.

By what logic does your quesiton make sense? Belief in scientific theories does not exclude belief in the Holy Spirit, God, Jesus or creation by God. Did you even read the article that you posted? Perhaps you didn’t understand what the Pope was saying. The Catholic Church is not a cult, has never been a cult and is the true church. All other denominations are offshoots of the Catholic Church. Quit trying to cause seperation and division among those that believe in Christ.

Where does he doubt that God created Earth? Evolution does not mean that God did not create the Earth. Evolution is part of God's plan. What is not in God's plan?

I know Catholic religion pretty well. They definitely fall under "False Worship of God" because of their practices. To sin in their Church is too easy. To forgive that sin all one needs to do is say Hailmary's (VERY BORING). A lot of Catholics believe their sins are forgiven as soon as they go in and come out of that confession booth. You know "Forgive me father for I have sinned." Not for me, never did do it. Catholic's rule 1. Sin all week and Sunday be forgiven. I don't think so. Going to the Catholic Church is BORING. No Holy Spirit dwells there, just the hypocrites.
I think the Pope is not the Anti Christ because he doesn't have that Charisma Charm to fool most of the world.
Probably the FIRST church to fall.

NO...The Roman Empire had many Cesar's / name change Pope....a sort of military/religious authority....that claims they have the position of of God on Earth as the vicar of Christ and that salvation can only be through them....

Galatians1:6-9........if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received let him be accursed....

Paul warned us then about following "Babylon"/Rome....

Prophecy warns us about a religious / military power that will change the laws and times of God....putting themselves in the position of God....

all the paganism and idolatry that was Rome was given a name change by the papacy.....

Constantin decreed the day of the sun as a day of rest to worship the sun in 571 A.D. and the papacy latched on to that and changed th 4th commandment from the Sabbath...re wrote the ten commandments and made sun day the official day of worship...

The Jews and Christians followed the true gospel and the ten commandments they worshiped on the Sabbath and were easily identified and persecuted and killed by the papacy of Rome...

The papacy is very good at apologizing for" our misunderstanding" of their double meaning edict's....

The Bible clearly points to them in prophecy....even they saw this and created their own version of the interpretation to try and exclude themselves from it...

The whore of Babylon is not to be trusted or believed...

Attacking the Pope without knowing what he knows is ignorant. It's called making an assumption. Do not rely on the secular media to spin any comments made by the Pope to appear to your liking.

The science behind the theory of evolution is being used to promote atheism and moral relativism.

One common tactic is to say that if anyone doesn't believe God used evolution they are limiting God. Jesus said, With God anything is possible. He showed, as God on earth, that He could raise the dead, give sight to the blind and even command the wind. It is very clear that everything is literally possible with God as Jesus showed this while on earth.
