I understand your question and it is a shame stay at home mums and/or dads don't get paid for doing a very hard job as its constant and not 9-5 (well I should say those who don't sponge off the government), but I do agree with some of the others, who would pay us? Thats why I go to work to earn my money so I can pay my own way in life

I think that housewives are among the hardest working people but who would they claim their wages from. The only person available is their partner. Or, looking at the problem another way, the partnership involves one to go out and earn whilst the other looks after the family and home. The other solution is for both partners to go out to earn and pay someone else to look after the home and family.

Good question. I am a Dad, and we have two kids. My wife is disabled and cannot do any thing for her self. Looking after the kids, cooking and cleaning, etc, is a real job. But people frequently speak off me as unemployed, with nothing to do, which I'm sure you will know is not the case.

It is supposed to be a joint effort between husband and wife. If, the man works for the money and the woman takes care of the children, home, cooking, bills etc. it should be seen as both working for the same paycheck. So, the money the husband makes is money the woman makes by providing support necessary for the man to work.

I have three children and a full time job. I work from 8am to 6pm in my employment and 6pm to 10pm when i get home. why should someone pay me for that ? I chose to have kids no one else. True i'll look like dot cotton by the time i'm 40 but i'll have my revenge by making my kids keep me in my old age !

Very true!
You are definitely employed to do a full-time job, so I think you should negotiate with your employer about your rate of pay.
The Minimum hourly rate is around £5.35 (?) an hour, I think, so you are doing around a 12-hour working day which must equate to something like £64.20 per day, so he should be paying you in the region of £450 per week.
If I were you, I'd make up a bill and present it to him with his dinner this evening!

You are being paid- your husband pays for a roof over your head and the food on you table as well as the clothes on your back.

There is a whole library of stuff over this question, going back to early 20th century, including all the feminism arguments. Who pays the wage?
