Hey,
I filled out an online application for walmart, which was really long and pretty detailed on what I have done so far. Well, they called me to set up an interview.
Do I need to bring a cover letter and my resume? I thought they were supposed to help you get an interview, which I have.
What should I write in the cover letter? The application was not specific on which position I was applying to.

Thanks.

For a retail position, I wouldn't worry too much about a resume or cover letter. Their applications are pretty comprehensive and ask most of what they want, the rest will be covered in the interview. Good luck!!

There are some important hidden agendas that you should be aware of:

1) Be careful in filling out the job application, cover letter, resume especially regarding the size of your handwriting, since bold and large strokes are considered signs of someone's vanity and that you are not really a "team player" because of your own attitude of going your own way. Often many employers use graphology [handwriting analysis] as a means to sort out potential candidates, noting that Peuguot, the French car makers uses graphology exclusively as the sole means to screen potential employees. So, be careful in how you fill-out a job application.

2) Note your posture during the interview; try to avoid the shaking or twitching leg syndrome when you are seated and of course, do not chew any gum.

3) Avoid looking away from the interviewer when asked a question. Respond honestly to a question, even if you say, "I don't know the answer." But make sure that you look the interviewer in the "eye" as you give your response - this eye-to-eye contact is an indication of your truthfulness.

4) Even though you may feel pressured or nervous during the interview, speak clearly and slowly so that your words can be understood. Make a conscientious effort to lower the tone of your voice, so that you sound more mature and not so squeeky.

Good luck!

It's always better to be overprepared than underprepared. Bring along a copy of your resume and a cover letter, or at the very least, just your resume.

While your interviewer may have all the info in your application, they may want to see a copy of your resume anyway, so it's a good idea to bring it with you, just in case.

If you do bring a cover letter, you don't have to make references to a specific position, but include some things about your work ethic, work habits (i.e., work well in team environments, highlight one or two key past accomplishments, etc.), and include a line or two about how you are excited about potentially working for a company with such a strong reputation, powerful brand/image, etc. Something along those lines. Just reinforcing your interest in working for them.

Hope that helps - good luck with the interview!

I would bring a resume. It better be what you did on line. The cover letter takes the experience of the resume and shows how it would fit for this particular job or employer. I wouldn't bring a cover letter.

In my opinion, it doesn't hurt to bring a resume, just in case. It shows the interviewer you're prepared and ready to work - a critical difference over some other applicant.

If you have a resume, I would bring a few copies of it and your references with you. That way you could have one to review your experiences, etc., before your interview and one to have to whomever you interview with. It looks very professional to have these things with you. However, a cover letter would not be necessary at this point.

I would take a resume just in case. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. As far as the cover letter I don't think you need one but, i would take my references. Good luck, I hope you get the job!
