Best pure race horse--Secretariat
Best racer and sire--Seattle Slew
My Favorite Horse--Skip Away, for his ability, length of career and his great heart.
Most amazing moment in a race--Afleet Alex's recovery and victory from a near fall in the 2005 Preakness.

My favorite racehorse this year is no doubt Rags to Riches. she tries with all her heart to win and that is what makes a great racehorse and when you couple that with her speed and stamina she is obviously one of the best throughout history.
Her win in the Belmont had to be the highlight of all races and I honestly think she should have been put in the other triple crown races as well. some people say that she only won because she had less weight well to me her stumble at the start (which her nose actually touched the ground) and having to go wide around the turns more than makes up for that weight and she valiantly fought off Curlin as well. I will be rooting for her at the Breeder's cup races this fall.
YOU GO GIRL!!!

My favourite racehorse is HAAFHD (GB). I looked after him as a foal and he turned out to be an outstanding racehorse.
His mother is Al Bahathri (USA) an extremely talented mare who was Champion 3 year old filly in Ireland and was beaten a nose in the 1,000 Guineas by the mighty Oh So Sharp.
He was bred and owned by Sheikh Hamdam (of Shadwell Stud) and raced 9 times. He won his maiden on his racecourse debut in August at Newmarket (I was there that Friday evening) and next time out won the Washington Singer listed race at Newbury - breaking the track record. His next two starts were in Group company and he finished third on both occasions in the Champagne Stakes and the Dewhurst.
He made his first racecourse appearance as a three year old at Newmarket's Craven meeting in April where he easily won the Group 3 Craven Stakes - the feature race of the meeting and a recognised Guineas trial. At this point I started to get excited as I had backed him ante-post for the 2,000 Guineas over the winter and had managed to get 33-1! He went into the 2,000 Guineas as an 11-4 shot and promptly beat what is now considered to be the best Guineas field in recent memory, with horse behind him including future Group winners Azamour, Snow Ridge, One Cool Cat and Bachelor Duke.
His next appearance was in the St James Palace at Royal Ascot. He was clearly not himself and finished only 5th. It later emerged that his stable was suffering from a virus. He was not seen out again until the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood where, taking on older horses for the first time, he was hampered badly in the home straight and could only finish 9th.
He was due to make his next appearance in the Queen Elizabth II Stakes at Ascot in September, but was withdrawn shortly before the race due to the firm ground. He had travelled to the course and was seen back to his old form, bucking and rearing in the paddock!
His final start came in October at Newmarket in the Champion Stakes. He again took on the older horses and was tackling 1m2f for the first time. Following his previous disapointments he was allowed to go off at as big as 11-1, but he easily cruised to the lead before putting the race to bed a furlong out. He beat world-class horses including Doyen, Norse Dancer, Azamour, Refuse to Bend and Chorist.
Soon afterwards it was announced he was retiring to stand at Nuunery Stud just outside Newmarket for a fee of £20,000.
I have been to see him at stud a few times and he look remarkable. His handlers comment about how easy going and sweet natured he is - a trait inherited from his mother.
This year he has first-crop yearlings selling at the sales, and the word on the street is that they are good. He is stamping his stock and everyone seems to like him as a sire.
Fingers crossed, a future champion-sire in the making perhaps?
He may not be the most well-known, or the best racehorse to grace the turf, but he is my favourite because he holds a place in my heart and I can say "I was a part of that".

Blazing Dynamo/Dynaformer by far!
It was such a sad story for Barbaro. A 4 year old gelding that won the Kentucky Derby and then shattered his leg. I swear that I almost cried. It's great to know that his father is still racing, and I feel that he's a little piece of Barbaro.
God Bless Horses!

Please be more specific.
Define "Best" and from what time period. The "Best" could be determined from several criteria; sex, money won, race record, graded or overall, produced, etc.
*A "favorite" racehorse does not necessarily make the "best."
