Yes, many ebooks are in fact in pdf format but they may not be free. Did you mean free ebooks?

Yes, there are many web sites in fact where you can view and read pages of books in pdf formats. Even you can print any selected page for your reference absolutely free, but not the whole book. One such web site is of "National Academies Press" with web address, http://www.nap.edu/openbook/
