These morons should be fired, and then charged with involuntary manslaughter at the least.

What do you think?

The guy is on administrative leave pending an investigation. After the statements the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations made, it seems pretty clear that the officer shot the round and hit the child, but wanted to tighten up the investigation. See one of the things that law enforcement do during investigations, besides prove crimes happened, is eliminate possible defenses. When this guy gets charged he won't be able to claim that the round didn't come from his weapon.

And to charge the officer with murder is just stupid. Why would you charge the guy with an offense that requires premeditation as an element of proof. Even the grandfather said that he didn't believe it was intentional. Are you trying to get the officer off the hook? Because that's what you would be doing. He should be charged with involuntary manslaughter because that's what he did, not murder because someone just hates cops.

That would be a rush to judgment. It's possible that it was just a truly bizarre accident. But at the least it sounds highly likely they made an egregious error in firearm safety. Moreover, if for some reason (?) they just had to shoot the snake, why didn't they use a shotgun?

Charge him with murder. Anyone else would get the charge. This seems to be yet another example of how the screening process did not keep the entirely incompetent out of uniform. Always look behind your target before you shoot. It's not like the snake had a gun on the cop and this was a split second decision

Don't be surprised if the cop doesn't get in any trouble at all. They could have let animal control handle it...but no, they had to pull those guns and start shooting. Now a poor kid is dead...killed by a wreckless policeman's bullet.

At least manslaughter. Murder would be more fitting. Does OK have the death penalty? I know a cop wont get it but he should. Stupidity is no excuse.

This needs to be investigated. UNLIKE anyone else, the cops are ALWAYS treated like they are guilty until proved innocent. I think that you need to quit focusing on them in such a negative way, yes this is a tragedy and no we don't have all of the facts in yet. Why bother with the facts, you've already convicted this man and he has just had his worse nightmare come true, he shot a child. Let the investigator's do their job. The next life he saves could be yours!

The irony here is that all snakes are PROTECTED in Oklahoma. The cops were shooting it why- because it was in a tree, and some people were scared?
The snake posed no danger to anybody. They should have left it alone.
And then, the cops were reluctant to admit that they were doing the shooting.
TYPICAL COPS!!!
