I think it is a really stupid story but I totally agree with you. It really depends on the angle you view the story from. Do you view it from a male dominated Theo-socio-political environment as was the case when the story was made up or do you view it from a "Free Thinkers" mindset?
Obviously for you it is the latter.
It is a dumb story in the sense that people view it as the "truth" and "the word of god" even though it is just a story written by a man, a regular old human being, who lived a couple of thousand years ago.
Eve surely does seem to be the smarter of the two here, and made a pretty astute choice when it comes to eating the apple..
I like the fact that they ran around naked until they tested the forbidden fruit then I get a bit bored. Most of it is boring although the fact that she was produced from Adams rib is a bit weird. Why didn't god just produce two people at once? Had to be written by a guy, no doubt about it. Peace

If you truly understood the story you would know that they were not living in "ignorant bliss." Although even if they were, it seemed like a pretty cool thing to me. I can certainly argue that "less" blame can be assigned to eve, than to adam, but that's not really the point of the story either. Adam and Eve are a representation of all mankind.
The good that came as result of Adam and Eve's sin, has only to do with God's infinite mercy. Adam and Eve lost paradise and consequently had to face many hardships. And yes, because of their sin, we can now achieve union with God in heaven, which we could not have before they ate the apple. However, Adam and Eve had no idea that was going to happen. So really all they did was commit a sin and got lucky.
There is praise to be given here, and it all goes to God. Despite Adam and Eve's sinfullness, He still found a way to reward them.

What Eve was actually guilty of, that caused the most damage, was the breaking of a promise. It was the FIRST contract in history and she tempted Adam to break it. But, there were 2 tangoing in that garden. Thus 2 guilty! Both Adam AND Eve are guilty. If God did not want you to have sex, he could have figured around a way to get prevent it.
But let's face it, if sex didn't feel good, there is not much of a chance that we would still be doing it. A lot of people reproduce by accident, not by plan. Yes, Eve and Adam are equally guilty, it doesn't matter who tempted who. But since my existence on planet, depended on Adam and Eve's first sin, I'll have to dodge the lightning bolt, withstand the wrath, and whisper very very lightly. Thank You Adam. Thank You Eve.
Their mistake caused countless millions to experience life, I think people should consider that, and I think we should all give a whisper of thanks to Adam & Eve. And when you do it, remember to count to 3 and take 3 steps to the side to avoid the lightning bolt

many people believe that Eve was the reason for the fall, when in fact it was both Adam and Eve. Gen. 3:6 says "she also gave some to her husband who was with her. So Adam was there and just as much a part of it as Eve.
Before the fall, "reality" was awesome. "Reality" was not harsh; it was freedom from any and all guilt, fellowship with God, and having it made! Evil did not exist..it was not "reality".
I can say for me, I would love that kind of reality, instead of the one we have now. Not because I would choose to be ignorant, but because I would choose to have freedom from oppression. Sin and evil oppress.
Both of them caused our world to be what it is today. Knowledge of evil is wise now but would not have been neccessary if we would have kept it as God intended.

No, no, you got it all wrong. OK, first of all, the fruit was a symbol. It was a symbol of temptation. Since Lucifer, the archangel, was jealous because he thought that God was giving more love to Adam and Eve, he tempted Eve and have a sexual relationship with her. Eve has bitten the "fruit." Then Eve felt guilty because Lucifer was not her rightful partner, so she went to Adam and had a sexual relationship. But Adam should not have done it, because it was BEFORE the time they were allowed to do it. So then Adam took a bite of the "fruit." So according to what I told you, they both had "fallen" to humankind.
BUT you are probably thinking, why didn't God stop them? Because God can't interfere with our choices. That's why we have to be careful in what we decide. He made us like this because He trusted us in doing the right things. So don't do crime, its a sin!
I hope this helps! :-)

Wasn't she the first to wear a leaf ? I guess thats the reason.
Besides, mankind really does not appreciate the fact that it is women who lead (whether from the front or back). So man (as in males) has to put down the image of woman just to show off their manliness. Then in public, the man's woman will also parrot the same language.
Basically, it is man trying to cover up his weakness by berating women, and starting at the root i.e. Eve.
Having said that, I would still like to stand by the leaf theory :) if only it was a world without clothes it would be so much fun.

Eve brought the curse of death on mankind, it's not a pretty picture, but it seems like it could just as easily have been done by Adam, really. I think if anybody out there is using that as a legitimate arguement against women, they're insane. That's horrible, attributing Eve's sin to an all-over evil trait of women. It's not like Adam didn't know what it was when he took the same fruit from Eve...
In response to the guy's answer above me, he's right. Adam was to be the leader, and the leader is considered to have failed at their job when a subordinate disobeys.

Being at a point in my life with a lot of conflict between reasoning, and religion I find this pretty interesting.
God (if existent) is the most important thing to me, however, at the moment I would chose reason over God because I can't reach God without reasoning.
The way the story is told, it sounds like Eve was already comfortable with a belief in God, in which case her actions confuse me. If you believe in God, then why would you disobey him? In that position I hope I would choose God. The point of the story I guess is that we SHOULD choose God, but like I said, I don't think I would be capable of that unless I had some kind of evidence. So... for me, it comes down to Eve's beliefs. If she believed in God, she should have been obedient, but if she didn't, her actions are understandable.
And whether or not it was morally 'right' for her, I've gained from it (if you believe the story) because I can reason. So, overall... Thanks Eve!

Because, the story of Adam and Eve is a myth. It has all the elements, a story of good and evil, meant to explain a reality that we don't understand and to teach a lesson. It's complete with talking animal symbols and magical fruit. Eve is a representation of what happens when we give in to temptation. We are meant to learn from Eve's actions, so those action's are cursed. That's the reason for the lesson, not to curse Eve, not to curse women, not even to curse apples or snakes, just to learn not to give in to temptation,

This is one of the most debated points of Abrahamic theology.
If God created both good and evil, how could man be good, without having the option of evil? Also, an omniscient and omnipotent God would have known what would happen when he placed both the Tree and Adam and Eve in the same location. If he had truly wanted man to be innocent of good and evil, he would never have placed them together. Ergo, did Eve really have a choice? (And keep in mind that God told Adam he would die the day he ate the fruit before Eve was created. One can assume Adam told her, but evidently God gave her no instructions on the matter.)
