That is a beautiful dress. Why not check with your local bridal shop about outside alterations. They definately know what they are doing. As far as the cost goes, I have no idea, but I am thinking at least a couple hundred dollars.

The pictures are very small and kind of difficult to see how much work needs to be done.

Basically the price varies a lot on what needs to be done. Hemming and bustling are around $100-200. The number of layers that need to be done individually, the top layer--if it has a lot of beading that needs to be removed individually. It's based on the amount of time she has to spend.

When you lose the weight, how much alterations would be needed around the bust and/or down the side.

How easy are the stitching/seams? Can it be altered easily or did the dress designer not leave much room for alterations?

Since that dress is poofy, each of the underlayers will need to be altered as well--or does that dress require a hoop skirt? If so, you won't have as many layers to hem and that will make it cheaper.

But you got to stay motivated and work really hard. You can't make a dress much bigger than it is, so you gotta fit into it.

You live in an urban area with a ChinaTown, you can find a great seamstress to do it for you. Or you can take it to any bridal shop to get it altered--it's no big deal. You want to take it to a bridal shop and not a chain like Davids Bridal, b/c chains have a high turnover rate and you might go through 5-7 seamstresses with varying degree of skill. It all depends on (after you lose the weight) how many alterations the dress needs as to how much it might be. It may be $300 in alterations--if the bodice needs alterations. The person who said they won't do it for you is wrong. The only places that won't are places that do FREE alterations with purchase (FEW!!).

I think you made a good find--but stay motivated!! Good luck

The dress is very pretty. Your local bridal shop should be able to refer you to a seamstress they use even though you did not buy the dress there. The seamstress is usually an independent business, not a part of the shop itself. DO NOT try to do it yourself like someone else said. Just be warned that letting a dress out is harder than taking it in, so if you don't lose enough weight, you may end up needing a different dress.

The cost of the alterations will depend on what you need done.

Go to an upscale dry cleaner who preserves wedding gowns and works with a good clientel and see if he has a good dressmaker on staff. You cannot go to a bridal store's dressmaker as they won't work on your dress because you did not buy it there. Also, check ads and ask around for a good dressmaker in your area. If you do not lose enough of the weight you want, the dressmaker can put gussets on each side of the bodice to give you a few inches. Gussets are an added fabric to match the existing fabric. There is new fabric on the market that has some stretch in it, and that will help too, but lets help you lose all the weight. You will I am sure. The dress is gorgeous even though the photo was small, and a Maggie Sottero is over $1000 in any store, so you did get a good buy. Good Luck

A good tailor will be able to work with your dress.
Ask around to other women you know, they will tell you where to go. You dont need a bridal shop to alter your dress, in fact, alot of times the bridal shop seamstresses arent all that experienced and cost alot more money.

What state are you in? If you are in NJ, I have an amazing tailor, all my friends have brought their clothing to him, my best friend even crossed state lines with her dress to bring it to him. And the best thing was, after she got it back, she had to take it to a local place to get it steamed and hung up porperly and the seamstress at the shop she took it to actually commented on how good a job he did on her dress. If other seamstresses are commenting on their work, you know thay are good. Let me know if you are in NJ, I'll tell you his name and info.

the dress is beautiful..you will need a professional seemstress to do the alterrations needed....ask around to friends and family for names of people they have heard good things about or have used themselves......you will probably be looking at around 100 for the alterations..

With all the boning and corset, expect to pay around $200-250 for alterations.

Beautiful dress. Not my style, but definetly stunning.

Good luck

Wow! The gold one is nice out of a fantasy. Of the three, it may be my selection for a bride. the 2nd is surprisingly yet no longer in my style for a bride. it incredibly is being marketed as a gown for a mom and that i think of it incredibly is the place it incredibly is clever. The 0.33 has too lots going on for a bridal gown. it can be a decision for a bridesmaid, if all and sundry replaced into incredibly getting fancy.

I can't reallly see the dress. The picture is way too small for some reason. I think it looks nice. It's a pretty big dress so if you wanted the "poofy" look or the ballgown look, I think you got it!
