It depends on the software you are using but if you are talking about MS Office, you can "save as" and choose aother version of that Office product. Good luck.

I'm assuming you are talking about Word files, Excel files, and others like that, because any other files carry over. Wahat you need to do is when you save your document that you create, in the save as type box, select compatability mode. It's not an issue between Vista and XP, it's an issue between Office 2007 and later versions.

There is no difference in file handling between Vista and XP. Bother operating systems can manager the same file extensions. There should be no problems. I share files between my two computers on my home network. This machine runs Vista and my other runs XP. I have found no problems so far.
