It is one more form of nonsense associated with religions. People have died from such silly stuff. Whoever does it should be jailed for swindling, and if he kills someone in the process, he should be executed. Demons are imaginary, so exorcism really does nothing at all.

I have seen one of these exorcisms, and it was nothing like the movie or like the news story this week about the grandfather choking his 3 year old granddaughter to cast demons out.
This one I saw happened in a Pentacostal church service. It was done in a fairly quiet manner, with many poeple gently putting their hands on the afflicted one and praying out loud to God. They also asked God to remove any Satanic influences from the person.
I admit, I felt a bit uncomfortable while watching this.
Did the demonic forces leave the sufferer? Well, he growled, and writhed on the floor, and, them grew calm and seemed at peace.
Self hypnosis? Perhaps. I do think this can be dangerous, especially if the sufferer is seriously mentally ill.
To do it, one must be very knowledgable. Most aren't competent.

Our physical presence in space-time acts as a vessel or cauldron for the soul. Severe abuse -- physical, psychological, sexual, spiritual -- can cause the soul to vacate the body and not return,a form of spiritual defense. (Out of body experiences.) Sometimes, an ignorant soul (evil) can take the vacated space. Talking to the will of the person can encourage the eviction of the unrighteous soul, but the will of the person has to be ready to accept the original righteous soul -- it wants to return, but the will has to accept it back. It is a very frightening ordeal, but has excellent outcomes if they -- body and soul -- reconnect.

There is no such thing as possession, so it is a waste of time.
