I am a single male here in Chicago and I am very shy I find it strange that people on publc transportation do noot talk much. People are usually listening to head phone, playing games on their phone or just talking on their phones. I think as a people we need to talk more to each other just say hi at least.

I think part of it depends on the time of day. Morning rush hour, I never want to talk because I'm just wishing I was back in bed and not going to work. Hence, I'm a bit grumpy.

Evening rush hour would probably be better, but on my train (I live in NYC), it's so much of a struggle to get on the damn train because of crowds, that it's really not the best environment to strike up a conversation.

Those are probably the times when you see the most people by themselves. Other times, people are usually with their own groups/friends, etc.

The reason for this is because of media programming. Everyday the news is telling us that whoever we sit next to could be the next terrorist. Rather than talk to each other, we go about our lives not trying to know other people. i do feel how you feel and we need to talk more personally though...

damn right, when you see someone on the bus or the train, and you can see their looking at you, why is it so hard to go and sit and talk to them?? I really hate that.... its the same where ever you are.

It would be nice, but if you say hi to people sometimes they might just blank you so I guess people would rather keep to themselves.
