I have a theory that there are a lot of people out there who tell their significant others that they have tons of stuff to do just so they can get out of doing things (i.e. work around the house, in-law functions, etc.) Just wanted to know if there were more people out there who do this!

if i dont' feel like attending a gathering -- family function, picnic, etc... i say "no thank you"

i don't have to give an excuse... i make choices, based on whether i want to or not...

it's no one's business "why"... and if someone asks, i tell them they are intruding.. because fact is, it's none of their business why i've decided NO!

that's my story and i'm sticking to it.

I have in the past especially if it is with my mil and fil, as i cant stand to be around them to long and they have nothing to do with us all year, and yet when holidays roll around here they are wanting us to play family and play nice nice, and i wont have it... I am not the type of person who especailly likes to be ignored or talked about all year and then go over to their house to play sweety . nope it doesnt happen and so now i dont tell them lies anymore i just say we are doing our own special holiday for family u can come if u want or stay home if u want. Needless to say we havent done holidays with them in 4 yrs and counting...

Never. That is really lame, immature, and silly. If I really don't want to participate in an activity, I am simply honest about it, or if it is important, I just suck it up and go. That is what family is about. If that is not what you want, spare your family the trouble and get out. When they find out you're being an *** and lying, you'll be unwanted at those activities... and every other activity.

OMG.............. my mother in law thinks I work 60-70 hours a week. I don't of course. I do not want to hurt her feelings but I can not stand being around her.

I do not lie to my hubby about anything. I take my responsibility seriously and respect him enough to be honest with him.

Honesty, sorry it is the only thing that isn't going to come back and bite you in the butt later...
