Our wedding is next year and we are starting to look at the groomsmens' outfits. There are 3 groomsmen (including best man) and we want them to be unique. All three are uncomfortable wearing formal wear and are more of the sporty type.

The groom is most likely going with a simple black suit. The maids are wearing light blue.

Any suggestions for how the groomsmen can feel comfortable and still look jazzy for the wedding, besides just giving them a different colored tie? We want them to be able to express some personality without being too casual.

What about sports jerseys or something? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tell them that if they are too flashy, they will take all of the focus off of the Groom and more importantly, the Bride. Dress them down, and tell them to get over themselves! It is YOUR day, not theirs. Tell them to HONOR you by being subdued.

If you are thinking something as casual as sports jerseys--why not do an outdoor wedding. The groomsmen can go barefoot and wear like Cuban linen suits. That would be very relaxed and they would look different.

Or khaki/latte suits. Those are far more like a sport jacket. The problem is you really don't want to allow them to express personality. They really need to match or it just looks like they didnt know they were going to be in a wedding.

You could go with suits, ties but no coats. That would be a little more informal.

I guess I'm just confused for how you can go not too casual with sports jerseys.

What are you wearing? If the groom is in a suit, you don't want the groomsmen to look so completely off. Some form of suit and some degree of dressy is required.

I just went to a wedding where all the men, groom too, wore khaki pants, white button-up shirt, a colored tie, brown belt and brown dress shoes.
The only difference from the groom and groomsmen is that the groom had a different tie on- it was the same color, but with stripes and the groomsmen had solid colored ties.

Trust me. As the bride you don't want them to stand out. Especially in the pictures. Have them wear suits of a similar color and blue ties to match the bridesmaids. They can be uncomfortable for a few hours. It's not fair to the bridesmaids to go out on a limb for the groomsmen like this.

What about no tie, and an open collar? That's quite fashionable at the moment. That way they will be a little casual, but not tacky.
Also, I had a friend whose groomsmen wore black and white spat-style shoes, with black fedora hats - kinda gangster style. I don't know if that's your scene - but it did look cool, and the boys had fun!

Sport jerseys? I'm sure that you would regret that decision later.

I just saw on VH1 Glamour mag, 20 do's and don'ts wedding special on TV about GM wearing informal wear and it look quite chic. The picture was of the GM weaing kakhi pants, matching polo shirts and matching sport jackets. It look fab and different from the tired tuxedos.

Good luck

I would have them wear a track suit or a leisure suit!! That would be fun. Track suites with lots of gold chains or something!

i think your jersey idea is inventive but you may regret it later. i think you should go dress casual with black or khaki pants with golf Polo's or white dress shirts that are untucked and a few unbuttoned top buttons.
