i think you're neither right nor wrong.
we can't change others, only ourselves.
but if it seems like they do it in front of you just because it makes you mad, i would speak up. tell them how much it hurts you to see any creature suffer like that and ask them if they would kindly consider something different when you're around.
i hope they stop.
and in my opinion, it is wrong for anyone to inflict pain and suffering on any animal, we're all too damn alike (yes, even the bugs). i didn't used to be like that but i had a really deep conversation with my philosophy teacher a couple months ago. totally changed my views. and now i do still kill ants and stuff but i make sure they don't suffer. its too hard to watch them squirming. :,(

No of course it's not wrong! They are still life forms and just because they are much smaller than us that doesn't justify killing them in such a slow and painful way. Larger animals such as sheep and cattle are killed as quickly as possible to reduce their suffering, but we can see it in their eyes and feel for them more. Just because we can't see suffering in a fly's eyes, or because they spread disease doesn't give us the right to inflict such suffering on them. Everyone has the right to their own opinions and way of life, so you really have no right to stop your parents from doing this, if they think it's the best way of dealing with the problem, but you could try asking them not to do it in front of you. I try not to kill any living creatures, even though flies disgust me I will leave them alone and open the door or window so that they can fly out. Why don't you ask them to swat them instead, if they must kill them? At least that way it's quick and the fly won't know what's happening. There's nothing wrong with empathising with and showing compassion for other forms of life. If everyone had as much respect and compassion the world would be a much better place. But can I offer some further advice? Don't preach to people about it! It just makes some people worse and they'll do it to annoy you and more creatures will suffer in the long run! Just try and understand that we're all different and we're all entitled to our own opinions. Just ask them respectfully to find a quicker way to kill if they must do so. Hope this helps.

I admire your empathy. If everyone had such empathy there would be no wars. However the World isn't like that. Is it wrong for a lion to kill an antelope, a seal to kill a penguin or even a whale to kill millions of krill. Everything has to eat or defend itself or it's territory. If an animal lets another organism to invade their territory that could be considered a threat to the lives or the food that they eat then they would face extinction. It is why a lot of organisms face extinction today. Due to our invasion of their territory. However, there are organisms which can thrive in conjunction with humanity. Vermin like rats for example and the diseases that come from them and the insects that live with them. The Black Death after all killed half of Europe's population during the Middle Ages. So although you might think it is wrong for your parents to kill them. They are only following Darwinian rules governing species. The problem is that we have become so dominant that we are forcing other species into extinction as our population and needs for territory increases.
We are only now understanding the results of our impact on the planet and altering our lifestyles to live more in harmony with it. Let's hope it's not too late.

No, I suppose not. But you have to look at it this way, flies are vermin and will only keep coming back and multiplying. They are difficult to get rid of and there are far too many of them. There are more humane ways to kill them, for want of a better word, so maybe suggest to your parents that it upsets you and you would rather they used something else. We have fly repellents in the house which do not kill them but keep them away as they do not like the smell and they do work. Maybe ask your parents to try them out instead?

Its not wrong if it bothers you, that's just the way you are. We are all different and feel for other living things differently. While flies carry disease which may or may not affect us - the same can be said about the spray being used to kill them. It is just a matter of opinion and you are entitled to yours as much as anyone else

You aren't wrong, but you cant hold it against your parents. My bestfriend feels the same way as you do, But if i have a spider in my car i will kill it before it turns into hundreds of spider babies in my car, and she freaks out and gets angry with me.
So consider this it is your parents home and they should be allowed to mantain it how ever they see fit. When you have your own place you can free all the creepy crawlies you want.

It's not wrong at all to feel upset when your parents kill flies. You could try talking to them about it, saying why you think it's wrong. If they carry on doing this, you've just got to accept the fact that they don't like flies.

they are bugs, and many people dont' like them in the house....there are millions of flies out there, so losing a few to insect spray isn't going to hurt anything....
i never thought about it... but i dont' spray flies, i just swat them.

i dislike it when people kill insects. I never do and i encourage people not to, or i send it outside myself. They are living creatures and deserve to live just as much as we do, i hate it when people try to jystify taking the life of an insect with the line "it was bothering me". Its justification to kill people so it doesnt work for any other form of life in my book.

If it bothers you it bothers you, nothing wrong with that! Have you told your parents about it? Try to talk to them about it saying you feel its inhumaine and you don't like it happening in your house.
