I entered Junior high, there was a "human culture" class, before that, I was only pretty familiar with Greek mythology coz it's very intriguing, I knew a little about "Adam and Eve", didn't know which category they belonged to, and I knew there was a guy named Jesus in a book named bible, another famous guy named Muhamood in Quran, that's it.....

the ironic is, I read the "expurgated" bible (the first half of OT), without kinky sex and bloody violence (so bascially 90% of the bible was "expurgated", I can hardly call it "bible" any more), the NT was too boring I didn't read, as for Quran, I found the first chapter was almost exactly like the Bible, So I didn't read either.

Probably because I knew about religions too late, I couldn't and can't understand why so many people are crazy about them, Is it because they were indoctrined too early, they were too young to say no?

Thanks happygal, I was taught almost every major religion in the world, I was old enough to think on my own, the answer is "middle easterners prefer monogamy probably live in the desert, nothing changes in 100 years, and Asian area is heavily striked by natural disaster, like tsunami, typhoon, they tend to develop religions something closer to "nothing is permanent", like buddhism and Hinduism

A lot of people believe what they are told when young and never let that go.

Others confuse the message with the messenger. The enjoy the music and camaraderie of the church and find the members a valuable support group, so what these people tell them must be right.

--IF THE BIBLE is so boring, advocating kinky sex, unwaranted bloody violence(which it only reports, not supports) why do such individuals as follows, give it great worth & praise?
--English author Charles Dickens noted about the Bible: “It is the best book that ever was or will be known in the world . . . because it teaches you the best lessons by which any human creature . . . can possibly be guided.”
*** w92 5/15 p. 3 Is the Bible Really a Gift From God? ***

“I BELIEVE the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man.” That statement was made by Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. He was not alone in his appreciation for this age-old book.
--The 19th-century British statesman William E. Gladstone stated: “The Bible is stamped with a Specialty of Origin, and an immeasurable distance separates it from all competitors.” Along similar lines, the 18th-century American statesman Patrick Henry said: “The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed.” Obviously impressed by the Scriptures, French emperor Napoléon Bonaparte commented: “The Bible is no mere book, but a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it.”
--For some, the Bible has been a source of help and comfort. The American Confederate general Robert E. Lee stated: “In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength.” And because of his appreciation for this book, U.S. president John Quincy Adams said: “I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year.”
--WHY WOULD the Bible make this claim if it really could not clear-up any truth & idea about life , God, hope for the future, Christ, etc.?
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) “. . .All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.”

As believers we are told
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
So if you did not receive religious instruction as a child, it will be much harder as an adult to accept it. I find it very sad that your first real exposure to religion was through a class in junior high, most likely a secular public school, which relagates all religion into the same catagory as "myth" The fact that you find the bible "boring" is another example of the public school's lack of teaching true education. You probably find Shakespeare and classical literature boring too. Another product of the public schools that my hard earned tax dollars pay for....
It is never too late to find the truth. Truth is not relative, truth is absolute. The "world" does not teach the truth, only God's Word and Spirit teach the truth. Apart from the Spirit, there is no truth:
John 14:17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and shall be in you.

I pray you continue to seek answers and that God will call you to Him:
2 Peter 1:2-3 Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, according as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue,

You choose to not understand-
I was NOT- to young-- I actually walked away in my 20's thinking I was all that... I didn't need God... Then as I got older I realized what a mistake I had made- I went back-- I understand so much more now that I have opened my heart-- to the one & only God- the one who kept me alive during my wild days- the one who took care of me & my baby..
You can't expect the mind to understand everything-- The Bible is understood from the heart... as well as the mind..

I knew of the God of the bible as a child. I didn't become a Christian unit I was in my 20's though. I then fell away from it.
Then in my 30's God answered a prayer I'd prayed when I was 8!! It was a prayer that was right on time. It was about being older. It floored me and I got my sorry butt in church.

God drew me to him, not the other way around.

"Is it because they were indoctrined too early, they were too young to say no?"

That's certainly the theory.

Don't feel like you have to believe in a religion - life is equally thrilling and fulfilling without it, if not moreso.

Once you experience God's power you will never return want to return to a life without Him. I thank God every day that I was raised by Christian parents.
