I'am doing it as an experiment, so far it has been 40 hours since I last slept, I have noticed my skin has gone pasty and my speech is slightly slurred. Do you think I can carry on for at least a week?

Somebody's gotta play the devil's advocate here... I say go for it! My longest is almost 5 days without sleep in college. You really start to hallucinate and lose the barrier between consciousness and dream. I think everyone should experience it once.

Don't do it. After the first 5 days or so you will really start to have serious health problems. Your brain will get very disoriented without sleep (sleep calms the body down and rests the brain somewhat). I heard on this TV show that the most time anyone has gone w/out sleep is like 10 or 11 days. Don't go any longer than like 5-6 days otherwise you are putting yourself at a huge risk for brain trama.

No! You will not last a week. You can seriously harm your health through this. What is going to happen is, you are going to sit down somewhere, within the next 12 hours and sleep. You will have no control as your body will just shut down. You are likely to sleep for well over 1 day. However, if you try to force your body to stay awake, you run the risk of just collapsing, which can be dangerous if you are crossing a road or cooking etc. If you don't collapse into a deep sleep, your bodies organs could shut down (heart attack). That's only the physical side of it, I don't know how it's going to affect you mentally. What I do know is that you could go totally mad. The first signs of this is whilst redngi eht wrods gtella xmide pu. Iphoe oyu plese oons.

Sleep deprivation can have a very serious and detrimental effect upon your physical and mental health. You can cause harm to your immune system and may by more susceptible to opportunistic infections. However, the main concern is to your mental health where you could suffer from at worst a psychotic type illness which may include hallucinations and changes in perception which would serious effect ones judgment at therefore place yourself at some significant risk. I suggest you look very carefully at what you are doing and ask is it worth it? I personally think "Why? What the hell is the point!"

There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever to sleep deprivation. You can do long term physical and psychological damage by going much longer than you've already gotten. Smarten up!
