The ten commandments begin with "I am the Lord, thy god who took you out of Slavery (in Egypt)"

I was never a slave in Egypt, nor were my ancestors, and therefore, they are not addressed to me.

Lots of the Commandments are broken by lots of people. Honor your father and mother? Sure -- what exactly does it mean to honor them, though. Do you have to obey every word they say? When have you dishonored them?

What about "remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy"? Do you remember Saturday (the 7th Day - Sabbath)? Do you keep it Holy? Probably not. Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath day, by the way. Sunday is a day of worship, but did not replace Saturday as the Sabbath Day.

How about "thou shalt not make any graven images"? I bet you have graven images in your house right now.. Are all graven images prohibited (as some have believed), or are only those that are formally used as idols and worshipped prohibited?

Thou shalt not steal -- almost every child has stolen something from somewhere.... mom's purse.... the corner store.... your brother.... etc.

How about coveting thy neighbor's stuff? It's hard to not covet, especially if you are not wealthy and see wealthy people around.... you want what they have, right? Isn't that coveting?

That is correct. You would be hard pressed to find one person outside of Jesus that obeyed the 10 commandments perfectly. But there HAVE been men worthy of note by God in Scripture like John the Baptist and King David whos faith was commendable before the Lord.

sadly yes that means most of us probably all of us have broken at least one of the ten commandments,I don't know what you believe so I'm not gonna get further into it because it might be different then what you believe, just remember the ten commandments were given to the Jews to follow before Jesus came to earth and the ten commandments were rules they were supposed to follow and when they broke those rules the Jews would give a animal sacrifice if you have a bible read Leviticus
if your a Christian as I am Jesus does speak in the gospels about the ten commandments but if you believe in him and call upon him to forgive you he is your sacrifice to wash away your sins so all your sins are forgiven so it's true that everyone has probably broken at least one of the ten commandments and it's not really ok but your sins are forgiven if you accept Jesus into your heart. hope this was a help

I commit most of the "Seven Deadly Sins" on a daily basis....
I commit Sloth on a constant basis.

But the ten commandments?
Not so much so. I mean... I don't worship false idols because I don't worship anything, so I don't have any "gods before him" (not having him either helps). I haven't killed anyone yet, nor covetted any wives, houses nor oxen. I haven't committed adultery as far as I'm aware.

On the flipside... "God" certainly is no lord of me, I abuse his various "names" whenever I see fit, neither Saturday nor Sunday are of any particular importance to me, my father is dead and my mother is a resource to be exploited......
... I have no clue whether I've ever born false witness or not. Probably not though, as I am all but incapable of lying.

If you read the Bible you'll learn that the purpose of the ten commandments and the rest of God's law in the Old Testament was to prove to us that we can't become righteous by keeping a bunch of rules. God was pointing out exactly what you observed.

However, your conclusion that this means we may not go to heaven is not correct. Following the OT law isn't what gets us to heaven. Eternal life is through faith in Jesus Christ and trust in the work that he did to save you. It's about a relationship with God, not a religion based on following rules.

Well everyone breaks these commandments everyday. The most obvious one would be "Freedom of Speech." This is broken everyday not by only the people but by the government and schools. You truly and honestly DON'T have freedom of speech, although more than other countries.
eg. If we were to call someone a whore in public they could sue us for callling them that in public, which in turn I don't believe to be freedom of speech. This is not the only commandment we break though. I believe most of us break almost all of them in our life time, not only by self choosing to do so but with help from our surroundings.

Paul said " ALL have fallen short of the Grace of God"
It is not possible for man not to sin. But it is probable that you will be forgiven if you humbly ask for it in sincere prayer.
Most are too lazy to get to know God and his son Jesus.
Constant prayers seem to become a burden when the person praying see's no tangible answers, and stops for a while. The while gets longer and longer until the person quits altogether.
God said draw close to me, and I will draw close to you.
He did with me, and I have the urge to talk with him as a friend who seeks out the advice of another who loves him.

I make mistakes, and when I ask forgiveness, he does.
If you love him and express it often, he will come into your life, and if you listen, he will guide you.

If you really want to learn, try the watchtower.org. They have a lot of material free that you can learn from. God's Holy spirit will show you the way if you let it.

Well...that was the point Jesus was trying to make. There is no way we can keep perfect obedience to so small a list.

So...like Paul taught... all of us have fallen short.

Is that bad news? Well...its a fact. None of us are perfect.

will that be overlooked as we seek to enter heaven? no. Perfectly just Being can not overlook transgressions. which means there has to be an accountability.

Which is where Grace gets really amazing - God not only is going to be our Judge...He wants to pay the penalty as well!

Why? Because if we pay our own penalty...then we are eternally seperate from Him, and He wants that relationship so much He is more than willing to take on the penalty.

Which leads us to the gift He offers....

I assume you are speaking of the 613 commandments given as part of a covenant between the Hebrew god and his people. They are not commandments for all people, as it is a specific covenant that would last throughout ALL the generations of the jewish people.
They do not apply to those of us who are not of jewish origin.
They are not part of some universal covenant with all people. The god of Israel makes it clear that those who wish to covenant in that way must be circumcised and follow the feasts of Israel and become one of them in order to be under that covenant. It isn't a requisite to get into heaven, either. There is no threat of heaven or hell there. That is strictly a greek concept and not a jewish one.

Absolutely, all have some just more then others but that is why the Bible says we are born sinful and have the need for Christ the redeemer. If you have Faith in Jesus you will get to Heaven as long as you do your best to do what is right and repent. God made it easy on us and yet some still do not accept the truth.
