I am really fair with blonde hair and blue eyes. I have always been self-conscious about my very pale skin. Recently I decided maybe I should give tanning or self-tanning a try?

But I've been reading that tanning is out now. Is that true? And where did you hear that from?

do it in a small way because I love getting a tan and can relate. I moved to Alaska from california because of job transfer and I have never known I was this pale! It freaked me out! If you want to tan do it in moderation because blondes and blue eyed people are most vulnerable to skin cancer. Dont be afraid to tan just see a skin doc because if the sot is removed early you will be safe. There was a gal on the site here that recommended Garnier and some natural tan with a good product can give you the look you want I hope I helped

I never really heard it was out..but I know alot of magazines are trying to warn girls about the dangers of using a tanning bed because you can get skin cancer that is about it..
There are alot of self tanners out there to use that would be better than using a tanning bed..
I am too self conscious about being pale but I try not to use a tanning bed unless i have something like a wedding or something to go to..otherwise I use a self tanning lotion which works just as well if you find the right one

I haven't heard that at all. Honestly, I feel better when I'm tanned (real or self-tanner). Not only does it cover up any blemishes/blemish scars on my face, but, having tanned skin makes a person look thinner & also, the darker color makes my blue eyes really pop. If I had a choice, I'd be tanned all year round (but, would probably end up with skin cancer, or, would have to deal with applying a self-tanner daily, which, honestly, I don't have the time/energy to do)

I think that people may be saying that to get people away from tanning salons b/c of the skin cancer risk. But, if you use a good self-tanner (&, have the time to make sure you do it right & re-apply daily), the results are astounding.

Im fair too and sun burn really easily, I used to sunbath all the time but now I'm going to use fake tan and not risk anything!

Tan moisterisers are great for people with pale skin and beginnners as they build it up gradualy - just remember to get the paler ones unlike what I did., eek

No tanning is not out, where did you ever read that. I am not tan, only because I don't have time to do it. But hunny, if you want a good tan go and get it done.
Advice to you, use the new rays in the new beds. They are not uv rays it is something else. It gets you tan instead of burning you.
And, don't keep using them all the time. We don't want you to get cancer OK!!!

tanning has been out for me for years. i have olive colored skin but i am only in the sun once a year when we go on vacation so i am a very pale olive. my mom told me for years to stay out of the sun and i would be glad when i got older and didn't have leathery wrinkle skin. finally i started listening. one day all of those tanners will be in their thirties and look closer to fifty.

i do use tanning sprays sometimes, just one application to give me a bit of a sunned touch. not a lot or it would probably look very fake.

good luck!!

I don't care if it's in or out. I'm gonna be tan no matter what. I am not looking like a pale ghost

I don't think tanning is out. The person who said that probably thinks that it is bad for people to expose their skin to sunlight, but I think that as long as you are wearing sunscreen it is fine to tan.

I am a natural blond too and I do not tan. Tanning is a personal preference. Some people think it makes you look more sexy and covers up any serface blemishes so that is why they do it. Tanning either in a bed or by the sun has it good points and very bad points. Our skin's pigment was made to be able to tan to protect us somewhat from the elements but there is a balance to what is good for you and very bad for you. We all need some sun exposure because it helps against depression and also adds natural vitamin D into our systems. People who live in the north, like I do, can develope some bad skin problems and very bad depression problems from not having enough sun. Sun is absorbed into the body in two ways: through the skin and through the pupils. You cannot lay in a tanning bed and get the sun exposure into your pupils or you will go blind so outside sun exposture is best, except in the north, you can't lay outside in the sun when it never shows for months at a time sometimes. Also, there are other factors to consider besides sun aging your body. Too much that causes burning or over cooking the skin will produce skin cancers. The healthiest sun is the morning sun. It isn't as hot so it won't bake your body which is what the sun actually does and why you turn brown, just like a chicken in the oven. If the chicken is cooked just right, you will have a light brown skin on it and the inside will be very juicy. If it is cooked too much, it will get too dark and will be dry meat. Well, that is what happens to the human body. Some sun and the right sun is healthy and it will give you a nice healthy glow but won't effect your skin with bad aging. Oh you won't look like your skin is aging if you are still quite young but I guarantee you will age faster and wrinkle earlier as you grow older than normal. You will start looking quite a lot older than your age by the time you are in your 40's and definitely by the time you are in your 50's. My sister and I are perfect examples of that. She spends tons of time in the sun and is quite brown and looks like she is at least 15 to 20 years older than I am and we are only 1 1/2 years apart in age. If you can't get into the morning sun and wish to tan, then tan after 4 pm. The sun from 11 am until 4 pm is the worst sun and the strongest rays are between 12 noon and 3 pm. I have had women ask me tons of times what my beauty secret is because they can't believe I am as old as I am and have 5 grandkids on top of that. All I do to stay young looking is eat heathy, as much raw or close to raw as I can get in the fruits and veggie department and as fat free as I can get in the meats. I don't eat prepackaged stuff since it is full of so much stuff you can't even pronounce and I drink half my weight in ounces of water daily to stay hydrated which helps my skin stay young and healthy too. I do not wear makeup which dries the skin even if they say it is full of hydration products since if it wasn't bad for you, they wouldn't have to put those hydration products in it anyway. I get just enough sun to give my body a healthy glow and keep me healthy on the inside as well but not to discolor it. I am in my mid 50's and have no signs of aging at this point and no wrinkles either. I don't smoke either which will give you tons of facial wrinkles once you start the aging process and will make you look absolutely ugly if you are smoking a lot now. If you don't believe that, look around you at women and men who have been smokers all their lives and are at least 35 years old now. My girlfriend across the street is 15 years younger than I am and looks twice my age. She is a smoker and has smoked for years. She said she wished she had my complexion and wants to know how she can decrease her wrinkles. That will never happen if you are a smoker. It doesn something bad to your skin which is something else that the cigarette companies do not put on their package. I suggest you take everything about your body and health into consideration and weigh the odds. Everything you do and eat will effect your body in one way or another. Some things you have no control over, but the ones you do, it is best to do them with care and in moderation, especially if they may have life threatening possibliities connected to them. Also, if you to lay in the sun, to help prevent it from damaging your skin, be sure to prepare your skin first with a good tan cream and then after your tan use a good moisture restores to replace any dehydration effects that may have happened. And drink lots of water all the time so that whenever you do tan, your skin is already moisturized from the inside out.
