I'm searching for an XTI teleconverter (2x) or mirror lens (at least 500mm) for at most $200.

There are quite a few on Amazon.com but all have faults. The mirror lenses I've found are ALL manual focus, I'm looking for one that has autofocus.

The teleconverters ALL have bad reviews except the Canon 2x which is $279 or somewhere around there. It has awesome reviews and if I had the extra money I'd be all on this.

Can anyone offer links/advice?

There are no auto-focus mirror lenses. I would strongly recommend renting the mirror lens first or getting a full-cost return guarantee in writing and shooting some photos to see if you were happy with it. Many mirror lenses are junk.

You need to get the same brand teleconverter as your lens. The optics need to have the same design approach and be matched to the lens, otherwise you will get fuzzy photos. This is why most photographers say they can't get good photos with their teleconverter, and a few say they get really good photos. Even the Canon teleconverter will perform relatively poorly with a Nikon, Tamron, or Sigma lens.

I vote for saving your money and getting the CANON 2X teleconverter. You might check on ebay and see what they are selling for.
