the only difference between religion and mythology is that people don't believe myths to be objectively true.
Thats why the greek gods are seen as myths today, but were seen as religious figures millenium ago.

Mythology are make believe stories.
As far as the Christian religion goes it's based on a historical figure. Some people claim Jesus never existed but the fact is no intelligent skeptic will make such a claim.
Christianity is also based on historical documents: the Bible. The Bible is a very unique book very different from any other religion or mythology.
The Bible consists of 66 books, written by 40 different authors, over 1500 years, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents. This collection of books shares a common storyline- the creation, fall, and redemption of God’s people; a common theme- God’s universal love for all of humanity; and a common message- salvation is available to all who repent of their sins and commit to following God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength.
The Bible has been confirmed by archeology. Historians (real, secular, historians) state that the Bible is historically accurate and reliable. Real historians also state Jesus really existed. Mythology cannot claim this.

Mythology is based on old stories that people consider to mainly fictional. Religion is based on old stories that people consider to be mainly true.
The stories of mythology are studied out of historical curiousity. The stories of religion are studied to learn about ourselves and how we should conduct ourselves in our day to day lives.

There are similarities. In some ways they are the same. The distinction probably relies on someone still believing what otherwise might be a myth.
