I haven't been able to edit these. These are pictures of my friends and my mom (don't tell them). (The picture of the boy is kinda blurry, I didn't have a tripod then. Sorry about that.) Just wanna hear what you guys have to say 'coz I want to prove to my mom that I deserve a Nikon D40X! :P THanks!

Ok, thanks. I've been thinking about what you guys said. Actually, none of these picture were taken with my current camera. I used a Canon S3IS, Canon 400D, and a Nikon D50 to take these (all my friends'). It's just that I'm a little disappointed in my new camera (Canon A710IS), and now that I've tried a few dSLRs, I want one so badly. I found one on ebay really cheap and I offered to pay half. But thanks, I've been re-thinking.

Keeping shooting and keep asking the pros for their advice... personally, I am NOT a pro I just love to take pictures. But I'd suggest you buy a used camera first (assuming you will pay for it yourself) and practice, practice, practice.

As snapshots, they're OK.. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get a D40x, but just having it won't magically make you a better photographer.

Try using portrait orientation for head shots, makes the viewing more pleasant and natural.

Well they are good, but nothing you can't do with a compact camera ... if you want a Nikon D40X DSLR (me tooo :(( :D ) you have to show that your current camera isn't enough to capture certain things ... these are quite good portrait shots. But you should supply some more ... for example macro shots, landscape, etc ... to give a whole gallery ...
Keep it up ... and (hopefully) good work with that Nikon :)

There is nothing there that a new camera would make better. You need better lighting and composition, which can be acheived with teh camera you have now.

And in this life...don't expect that you "deserve" anything. Work hard for what you want...it's the only way to appreciate it.

it is pretty good but you shouldnt stick to the rule of thirds on every picture it gets boring if over used.

those are really good! the black&white is my favorite but 'Balmy' and 'Irish' are very good too - VERY expressive.
in my opinion you deserve the camera you want
