I can choose whether to use plastics; I can choose whether to use preservatives, air fresheners, etc- I can't choose when somebody breathes carcinogenic fumes over me in the street or in the pub.

A great many people are highly allergic to the smoke (even with allergy medication, it still affects them), it's hell on anyone with asthma, and it stinks. You can't exactly tell someone "stop having allergies so I can smoke" or "stop being asthmatic, so I can enjoy my cigarette without you going into respiratory arrest". Smoking is a choice; having an illness isn't. Even smoking outside, the scent still sticks in the smoker's clothes and hair. That smell can trigger allergies and asthma attacks in the same way that strong perfumes, colognes, and air fresheners do. Asthma isn't just having a hard time breathing - some people have attacks so severe that they require a rush to the ER or hospitalisation So, see, it's not just 'don't smoke, you'll get cancer'.

cigarette smoke actually burns in the lungs of some people who have to breathe in second hand smoke. Many people have respiratory problems that are exacerbated by the smoke and little children who have no choice are often forced to breath it in when they are around others. In addition the smell is horrible, and it leaves your hair and clothing smelling really bad. The other things that you listed are not known to cause lung cancer at the alarming rate that cigarette smoke does. I have seen very few smokers take the filter off of their smokes, but that's what everyone else around the smoke gets...the unfiltered version. I never realized that some people may not understand why so many of us feel this way about this topic.

I watch out for that stuff too.I have a smoking allergy.I always stay away from the smoke when I talk to my friends. They respect that.Smokers should respect the non smokers and vice versa. But when someone is confined to a small erea and smokes untill the room is full of smoke, knowing someone is going to be in there.Thats a little much.Yea,it stinks. Some people don't consider the unpleasantry of second hand smoke so they smoke untill the room is full.I've also known several people die in the past year from smoking way too much, and other things. And yes,I used to smoke.I had to quit.I couldn't breath. Then found out I have and allergy.

cigarette smoke is bad... blah blah blah, people do not like the smoke, blah blah blah.
They people that do not like, should take the cigarettes from the people that smoke. Then when the people that smoke get irritated and pissed off and what to hurt the non smokers... the non smokers can then decied if it was worse with them smoking... or being this angry.
I do not like people that color their hair that fake blond color but do not change their eyebrows... they should not be able to eat in a resturant if I can't smoke there.
And I do not like people that are skinnier than me, they should not be able to shop in the mall because I can not smoke in there.
Funny thing is they have yet to actually prove that smoking causes cancer... wanna know why... because there are people out there that smoke and never got cancer... imagin that.
There are babys that are born with lung cancer... but their parents never smoked... explain that one.
Truth is, people just want to take other right away from other people... because they don't like it.

Because with so many people smoking aroung non- smokers the non- smokers have more of a threat to get lung cancer and die than the smokers

I agree with what everyone else said. (BTW, I smoke...but when I am walking past someone I don't blow it in their face...that's just RUDE and IGNORANT) I think the whole "people who smoke" thing is kind of rediculous. It's a little bit to much, I mean. Everyone put us in that category of "ignorant" by blowing smoke in their faces and stuff.....and not all smokers are like that....Just wanted to let eveyone know that.

It's your choice to smoke, but I have to breathe in your second hand smoke. I have no choice. It is unhealthy: causing cancer and respiratiory problems. It is especially bad to smoke around children whose lungs are still developing. Yes and they smell horrible!

No it's not just the bad smelly air.
You can choose wether you going to die by wear plastics, preserve, etc or not.
But by smoke over someone faces, you disrespect someone choice.
So, i don't against someone who wants to die by smoke 100 packs of cigarette, but i against someone fool enough to smoke in my face, in his/her house where there's still underage people depend themself on you and public area.
