thanks for the answers! we gave the vet a quick call who advised us to bring him down. He finally peed after our vet ''mr B'' manipulated his bladder!

Take him to the vet so they can catheterize him to get an accurate sample.

This is not an unusual problem, Many times your vet will give your cat Antibiotics but you will find that changing the cats diet to a hard food that lists that is for urinary tract problems will clear your cats problems up quick. You are already aware you can spend a fortune on vet bills.
Get rid of all the other food and switch now and within a couple of days you will see that your cat will not want to go on plastic bags and such. You see it hurts them to go when they have this problem and they associate the pain with the catbox so you see why your cat doesn't want to go there.

I would put the cat in a large dog kennel with the litter box

Or, you could put the cat and litter pan in a small bathroom, best without carpet. Clean the floors, and tub - rinse well. Put the plug in the tub. If you have a shower only - put the pan in the shower. This way - you should be able to get a sample no matter where he leaves it.

Best of luck to you.

Cats dont need to urinate frequently. Hang in there a bit longer, and keep putting him in the tray every 30 mins or so, he will go when he really needs to. Put a small shovel of dirt from your cats favourite peeing spot outside, into the litter tray. The smell of dirt might encourage him to pee. Good luck...
