In some cars, sizes of the left and right rear view mirrors are different. What is the reasond behind?

It would seem practical for the off-side, passenger side, mirror to be larger as you,re farther away. Also some mirrors image is distorted, made smaller, which could be related to the size requirement.

There's not a uniform standard as to where the mirrors are placed..therefore no size standard. It's up to the designer,based on functionality and what look he wants to achieve.

Basically, it's a relationship to vehicle size and blind spot size. Bigger vehicles tend to have bigger mirrors to eliminate blind spots that would be eliminated by smaller mirrors.

There are DOT and other governing factors regarding minimum size of mirrors.
