Immigrants and English?

America is the ONLY country that allows people to enter WITHOUT permission.

I am hispanic NOT WHITE for those of you who think that this may be a white racist writer.

I am a hispanic man borned in another country but when the given the chance to come here LEGALLY (not crossing the borders), I learned English and American History.

I can't stand illegals who come here and have no clue nor care who George Washington was and what he represents to the USA.

Why must Americans learn Spanish but illegals not learn English?

Try this in North Korea and see what happens!

I am glad that you are here and have used intelligence in adjusting to the culture and language of your host country. Unlike people like Judy who appears to be about as anti-American as is possible especially after living here for 26 years and still can't pronounce or write proper english. She should go back to the Dominican Republic and try to live there for a while. I have yet to understand why people try so hard to get to our country to live and as soon as they get here they try to change us to suit them.
I was blessed enough to be born in America and although it isn't perfect here, I wouldn't want to live in any other country and yes, I have been to many. I speak english, german, and a little french and spanish and I can communicate a little in Dari, pashtun, and Thai. I have been to all of the countries that speak those languages and I believe that even when visiting a country, you should try to learn the local languages and customs. It makes visiting a pleasurable experience and the local people will have more respect for you.

I agree one hundred%. If they don't desire to talk the language of the land, they are able to GO HOME. Steve is incorrect in his comparison, displaying his possess lack of information and prejudice. I have a brother that speaks 7, probably considering he truthfully TRIES. Why can not all people else attempt to a minimum of be trained a moment language? I agree I think people who come to this country should learn to speak American English. However this problem is not just in the US, the same problem occurs in UK, where people come from different countries refuse to integrate into society and learn British English, expect the school systems to accommodate their non speaking children.

One saying in England is "When in Rome do as the Romans do" So yes, if you are coming to this country you should learn to speak the language but then again if you went to live in Mexico, you should learn to speak their language.

and you did this yourself, study and learn english, wow, I am so impress, guess what I didn't cross the border either, and I do speak english and french, and I didn't learn that here, and I know about the american history and some more, and I am glad you make this point, ARE YOU BEEN BRAINWASHED? oh ok, just because you didn't cross the border and you learn that little history, you can not knock others down< WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?
