should he take his bestfriend or gf to the formal?

He asked his bestfriend to his formal...she said maybe because she was going overseas sometime at the end of the year so he kept her on hold....about 5 days later he asked me out to be his girlfriend .. now 2 weeks later wen he knows the date for his formal he tells his bestfriend..she said she could come... who should he take?

the girlfriend. he has a commitment to her.
if the best friend really is a best friend, then she will understand.

I would think that he should be taking the girl that he cares the most for. Hopefully that would be his girlfriend.
