You need to explain what your current status is here. I am guessing that you are on a two-year marriage visa. At the end of this you will have to apply for some sort of extension is you don't want to be an overstayer. I don't know if there are any other options open to you, but they would all charge similar exorbitant fees. Even though you don't plan on staying here long term, it would still seem to be the best thing to do just in case things change.
Check with a solicitor or the CAB, but I'm fairly sure that ILR is the best if not the only option.
Good luck.

I'm Infierno's husband. Thanks to Jim for his courteous and helpful reply. I have my day off work today, Jim, and we're going to sort out LTR during the course of today. Now, Realdolby.....
Any need to be so rude??? We plan on returning to America as a couple sometime in the future, but not for a while. So, why the need for such a rude answer?? My wife has found many people in the UK to be as polite and helpful as Jim. She has also found many to have your attitude, Realdolby. Not while I've been with her as I do tend to put folks off if they feel the need to be less than polite. Funny, that. Maybe you live on your own, and sit at your keyboard, all powerful, and free to type all the things you wish you had the guts to say to folks face-to-face. I don't know but maybe that isn't a bad guess. Seems to me that a lot of my fellow countrymen (and women) are only too pleased to visit America on holiday, enjoy the hospitality given (like I did) but give a less-than friendly welcome if any American's dare to settle or visit here. I go on football forums a lot and they are full of folks who make 'brave' statements about what they will do when their team next plays x y or z team, and you just know that most of 'em will either be nowhere near the ground or wrapped up safely in a police escort. Maybe, Realdolby, you would have a ball on those sites, saying what you like with no comeback. Sorry to all those who think I'm being awkward but, like most men, I don't let anyone get away with being rude to my wife and Realdolby was rude, make no mistake. If he has problems in his life, why take them out on others? Thanks again Jim, and enjoy your day and night online Dolby. Oh, and before you ask, my wife does not receive (or want) even one penny in benefits.

Good on you Broozinu.
I feel the same every time I see a n answer like that Idiot's.
I just tell myself that they must have been brought up in a slum somewhere. They are usually benefit creeps and guard it jealously and come from a long line of creeps who never taught them any manners.
This gives me an excuse to ignore them.
As a Brit I would not like to think that many of my countrymen were brought up this way.

She could desire to be in possession of Indefinite depart to proceed to be for a 300 and sixty 5 days earlier she turns into eligible to coach for British citizenship, so she could desire to coach for Indefinite depart to proceed to be (ILR) first although, as a manner to be eligible to coach for ILR she could desire to be resident for 5 years, continually, in the united kingdom - as she left the country for a 300 and sixty 5 days, she has basically been resident for 3 years
