Since you do not want to spend the money on a vet, buy whatever is available at walmart to get rid of fleas and hopefully it is not toxic to pregnant dogs and their puppies. I hope there are no other complications during the pregnancy or while whelping because the poor dog will just have to suffer because you do not have much money.
Why did you let your dog get pregnant if you could not financially handle any problems that arise?

Ah - I'm afraid going to the vet is the only way, because it's the best way!

People are going to give you all sorts of crackpot remedies like dawn dish soap and Gawd knows what else. They're going to recommend products from Walmart. Don't do it. Let me tell you this: store-bought products are dodgy at the best of times, they can cause reactions in healthy animals. Your dog is pregnant - I doubt you're going to find any products that don't have the warning 'do not use on pregnant on lactating animals'. They're not safe, and to make matters worse they don't even work very well! It's because shops aren't licensed to sell the proper drugs, so they just bottle random insecticides.

Be safe, scrape a little more money together and get some Frontline. It doesn't have systemic action, so it's quite safe for use on pregnant animals, and the spray can be used on puppies from 2 days of age.

I don't usually advocate internet buying, but I would suggest you get Frontline online (it's cheaper) before wasting your money on any Walmart stuff.

EDIT: Shepherdgirl says 'hopefully' the stuff won't be toxic?! HOPEFULLY?! The dog would be better off with fleas than having a toxic product applied!!

Flea shampoo from WalMart or pet stores actually works well, but it doesn't have a long-lasting effect. The best method of getting rid of fleas is get some good prescription strength products from the vet, but if you have not the cash for that, get a flea shampoo from the store and wash every few days. You will eventually break the flea cycle, but it will take a long time, probably months.
