My racing bike is in need of modernising so I'm going to do it up as a bit of a project. I fancy changing the frame colour - I saw a ford focus RS in orange and fancy doing it in that colour. Has anyone got any tips on the best way to remove the existing paint and the best way to spray it up to make sure the paint doesn't just chip off?
Any help would be appreciated
thanks

Have re-sprayed a few motorcycles. It is quite hard to remove old paint. What you are probably better doing is painting over the top.

You will need to sand the frame in order to rough up the surface. Was afterwards and mask up any areas that you don't want painted.

Spray an undercoat first (Grey is probably better). Note: you will need a clean, dust free environment.

There are two ways of achieving orange. Once is to buy the orange ready mixed. I don't think that the RS orange is available in tin form, so you will need a spray gun. Go for about 3 coats. Once this has been done, two coats of laquer.

Another method, which gives a really good effect, is to spray sunshine yellow first (3 coats). Then spray one coat of thinned red. This gives a really good candy colour. After this, laquer coats x 2.

If you are not used to spraying, practice first. If you spray onto paper, you will notice that the ends may flare out. This is because of the natural curve that your arm will describe. Practice until the line that you spray is the same thickness.
This will ensure an even coat thickness. Also, use breathing masks and goggles.

Alex is 100% right! (Tumbs up for him)

The colour you choosed is great for it has high visibility!

Take your time to do it right and enjoy. No sense in getting anxious or rush the job, enjoy every stage of the way to ensure a positive final result-.

If posible get an undercoat that is also rust proof or that offers some rust protection.

Finally, you copuld take a picture of the new frame and use it as your image. I would like to see the end results!

Cheers.
