what exactly does a communications guy do in the USMC (marines)?? specific job duties, etc. thanks!

First what is the MOS your looking at?
2nd, Call a recruiter and ask what jobs entail communications.
They have a nifty little book with job descriptions.Also check the Marine website it probably has some basic job descriptions there.
There are several MOS's that may entail the job of "communication" you will have to be specific of the type of communications you want to do. Do you want to talk on a radio? do want to repair radio's? do you want to work with message traffic (sending and receiving actual messages between units)? do you want to work with information systems? Do want to work in intelligence gathering?
These are all related to communications as well as are many more jobs.
Bottom line is this though: Even if your MOS is "Communications" you will do more than just communications, much more! It depends on your rank and unit your assigned to.

Call your local recruiter and ask....if you are in the US. Communications covers a WIDE array. There's data comm, satcom, 2-way, UHF, VHF, etc. Make the call and someone will be willing to break it all down for you. You could also take a peek at the USMC website. It might even be there as well. If you could be more specific, then maybe you could get a more detailed answer.

That Depends on his MOS Military Occupational Speciality like is he a Radio communications Technician. Does he work on RADAR?

ADDITIONALLY, specifics may not be available, if the job is Classified.
