Can someone who believes in God/Goddess be friends with someone who is Atheist even though their beliefs are so very different? Do any of you have friends who believe extremely different than you do about God?

Yes.. As long as both parties are willing to respect the boundaries of the relationship..

I have a very close girlfriend who is christian, she knows I am Atheist.. We both respect the boundaries of our relationship I.E. she doesn't try to preach to me , I don't tell her how I feel about her beliefs.. We simply do not talk about religion or lack there of... We have been friends now for just over 10 years... We met while we were both in labor walking the halls of our local hospital.. Inbetween contractions we talked about our family and realized we had a lot in common.. We both had children in the 3rd grade at the same school, and in the 1st grade at the same school.. We were both in labor with our 3rd and final.. We are both stay at home Moms... In the past 10 years we have done a lot of things together from Mommy and me classes with our babies to crying on each others shoulders the first day of Kindergarten when our 2 children ran off together with a simple "Bye Mom."

Her belief in her deity of choice doesn't make her any less my friend just as my belief that no deity ever existed makes me any less her friend.. We simply enjoy our similarities and appreciate our differences..

I am a Christian (although I am not 100% traditional and tend to lean towards Wiccan beliefs, and belive in science) My husband is Atheist. We have diffrent belifes but we have the same values. Also I do not belive in everything the Bible says. My mom is a Buddhist. My dad is an Agnostic Jew. My brother is Catholic. My sister was Wiccan. Most of my friends are either Christian, Athiest, or Wiccan now that I think about it. We get along pretty well. We never fight or bicker about religion because we all have respect for eachother beliefs. (Except for my mother, but she is another story) :)

Yes, I have never met anyone who believes exactly what I do...and I have many close friends. I have friends that range from atheist to anabaptist (amish/mennonite are anabaptist) and have found that differences can be acceptable as long as they are acknowledged, and not attacked.
Actually, I find my closest friendships with those that I disagree with on some level spiritually--because I know they are true friends and not just folks in the same easy boat along for the ride.

Sure, if the believer doesn't try to convert me--in fact, we would probably need to leave religion topics alone altogether.

My whole family has pretty fundamental Christian beliefs about God, and I'm an agnostic. It makes for a lot of tension.

But I have a friend who's Episcopalian, and we get along fine--probably because she's not nearly as conservative/fundamental, and because she doesn't think she's all-knowing about religion.

Sure! One of my best friends is an atheist. The people I hang around with have a variety of beliefs; atheist, Wiccan, agnostic, Christian, Jewish... And we all get along wonderfully. The main reason for it, along with us all being interested in the same topics, is because those in the more mainstream religious lines are extremely liberal thinkers. Bigotry and stupidity gets ejected very quickly.

I do have friends that are atheist, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and a variety of other beliefs that I do not even now how to spell. It is not Christianity that stops people from being friends with other groups, it is the person who then twists scripture to match what he needs instead of what the verse intends.

it incredibly is significant what random human beings have faith because of the fact your concept informs your strikes. it may be the case that your ideals are no longer too rather adverse (despite if i'd say believing in issues which no information exists to help is majorly incorrect) yet we do stay in a worldwide the place human beings carry out their ideals no depend the cost. as properly you look to intend that our ideals are on equivalent degree. that isn't the case, we've actuality and how we understand actuality and your opinion. Now your opinion is in basic terms that, your opinion and would not deserve the comparable variety of admire (or maybe none in any respect) whilst it conflicts with actuality. there is not any information for the existence of heaven and to declare otherwise is idiotic.

Sure they can! Wouldn't life be boring if every single person believed the exact same thing? We wouldn't be on this board right now having this discussion. We wouldn't be able to intelligently debate our friends if we were all exactly alike. Diversity is what makes the world go 'round.

As long as they don't discuss religion. I have some good christian friends, but when religion comes up I give them living hell and they can't resolve the problem and start frothing at the mouth, this a good signal to change the subject.

Honostly we aren't to live by the scriptures.
2Co 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?
