I think, unlike some breeds, all three colors of Lab have pretty much the same personality.
The three colors are chocolate, black and yellow. I'm not sure about silver, but I'd guess it's a variety of yellow that's very light and looks silver? I know the standard says that yellow can be from "fox red" to a very pale yellow. Nevermind! I just looked that up. Certainly not yellow! Well, it's not an AKC-recognized color (although you can get dogs AKC-registered in this color), so I wouldn't advise getting this color if you buy from a breeder. Most good breeders don't breed colors not allowed by the standard.
If you don't have a favorite color, I guess I'd suggest you look at your furniture and clothes and carpet and see which color would blend in better. They do shed quite a bit! Or, just pick a good dog whatever the color!
My favorite is chocolate.

It all depends on the color that you like best. There are only 3 colors recognized by AKC (yellow, chocolate, black). Breeders sometimes advertise fox-red, silver, charcoal but all of these are just different shades of the main colors. Fox-red is registered as yellow, Silver is registered as chocolate, and Charcoal is registered as black. Basically these colors are rare and breeders will advertise as rare so they can make a better profit from them but they are all the same.
They are no known traits to each specific color. All colors of Labs have excellent temperment, very loyal, playful, hyper and great kids. I believe that Labs are one of the best dogs for family companions and hunters. No matter which color you decide on you will not be disappointed because they are such great dogs.
Personally my favorite color is chocolate and next would be yellow. I don't like the blacks as much because they are too popular. I own 2 chocolates and 2 yellows and I breed them because I love the breed so much.

There are only 3 colors of labs, yellow, black and chocolate.
Look at the parents to see what kind of temperment the pups will have. They are all the same breed of dog.

It's really just your preference. I haven't noticed any changes in temperament between the colors myself.
Just as a side note, though: Silver is not an acceptable AKC coat color for Labradors, so you are not allowed to register a silver or participate in any AKC events, nor should it be used for breeding stock.
EDIT: Finally that person deleted their asinine comment...Anyway, more information on Silvers and the controversy surrounding them:
http://www.labbies.com/silver.htm
"The silver coloration is considered a serious fault in the breed, however, it does not alter the health or disposition of the dog. Therefore, it is recommended that silver puppies produced by registered Labs be placed in pet-homes without AKC registration papers or with Limited Registration to prevent further propagation of the silver gene."

I prefer yellow. They seem to be more laid back and loving.
Chocolates seem nervous and needy, and blacks tend to be more aggressive. Don't believe I've ever had contact with a silver. Which ever you choose, spend the money and go to a reputable breeder, you get what you pay for and these dogs popularity led to some carelessness, such as inbreeding and over breeding, poor health care and socialization.

I had a Black Lab when I was a kid. It was an awesome dog, cannot ask for a better breed, but beware, labs suffer from Hip Dysplasia.
