Insomnia is horrid, I know. I've had it for a long time too.
I'm not entirely sure about this but
I've been taking Benedryl (not over the counter allergy. Prescription kind to make you sleep.) for a while, and have never gotten addicted to it. Same with Tylenol PM and medicines like that.
With any sleep medications, your body can get too used to it and you'll need higher dosages, which isn't always good.
(I don't get addicted to things, so I don't know what the normal addiction rate to Benedryl is, so if you take it be careful)
Or take the medications for a while, then try a few nights with out it. It might help your body sleep normally, regularly.
Try meditating on the things that are bothering you the most.
There's other ways to help your mind calm and help you sleep better, too.
Death isn't the only way to fix it. It really isn't, I know this personally.
I hope I could help, insomnia sucks.
And doctors don't really seem to know how to fix it (but that's just my experiences kicking in.)
If I can help anymore, e-mail me, okay?

I had problems like that when i was younger, and even now still. I had to go to a doctor and they gave me this liquid medicine that I would take every night before bed time. The doctor also recommended drinking warm milk, and not being around computers or TVs right before going to sleep. Does your 9 year old have a lot of stress (parents divorcing, bullying, self appearance issues)? That may be the reason for her insomnia. Good luck, and if you still can't solve it, take her to a doctor!

This is a 24 hour world, but a lot of people don't see it that way. I used to get ????? from family about my 0400 e-mails. What they didn't understand (or grasp the concept of) was that I worked until 0130! None of those Nine-to-Fivers ever went to sleep @ 8:00 p.m.
In college, I realized that there was no way I could handle early morning classes, so I took some afternoon and even evening courses. My jobs have been mostly those that were 2nd shift (aftrnoon-night), and everyone I know knows not to call me before 10 a.m.
With all that said, maybe you just need to find your 'rhythm' and a lifestyle that fits it.
You don't want to die at 20. My son died at 19, and I've been pissed ever since, especially since it wasn't his fault (he was shot).
Find your best hours and go from there.

Have you talked to a medical doctor? Maybe you have a sleep breathing disorder-a sleep study may be helpful. Don't the newer generation of sleep meds ( e.g. Ambien, Lunesta) have less of a risk of addiction?
Don't think of ending your life, you may have much joy still ahead of you.

There are many sleep medications that have little risk of addiction. I think you should talk to a physician if psychologists have been no help. Dont take your life. Thats one mistake you can never correct...

You don't want to die at the age of 20. I know things may not be that great in your life right now, I don't know what you are facing or have been facing all your life. But, life is worth living, you can't give up! You never know what wonderful things may be in store for you just right down the road. I know I had a rough time as a child and as a teenager at home. My parents were not happy and fussed all the time, either that are they were not talking at all for long periods of time. I felt torn and had to divide my time between each of them and then find time for school and its activities,friends,etc.. Then one would be upset when I was spending time with the other or thought I loved the other more and I was a nervous wreck all the time. I had to start taking nerve pills when I was in the fifth grade. I also have had insomnia for many years, just because I can
not seem to shut my mind off at night. It is at night when I think about all the bad stuff in my life and I just can't go to sleep. I have to be completely worn out before I can sleep and then it is not a restful sleep.
Please do not give up. Life is worth living. Surround yourself with good friends, talk with them. You need a good support group and if you cannot have it with your parents, then find another relative or teacher, someone you can depend on to talk to about everything you are feeling. Get very active in physical activities, take long walks to clear your mind and make you tired. Keep your thoughts in a journal. Write them down, this can help you deal with them better. Call a hot-line and talk with someone about what you are feeling. Continue to see a therapist and talk with them about your health and mental state. You may not have found meds that have helped yet, but they are lots out there that are new you may not have tried. Go to your local health food store and see if there are some natural remedies for sleep you can try like melatonin for example.
Reading my Bible and Praying to God. Asking for His help and His loving care when I feel I can"t go on no more. I have fallen asleep many nights with my bible in my hands and a prayer on my lips. Read the book of Psalms they are very comforting. This helps me a lot with both sleep and my depression:
I want you to think positive and please don't give up on life or yourself!! You are a wonderful young person, even though I do not know you, I can tell by the way you write, you have a kindness about you. I know that a severe lack of sleep and bad circumstances, can really get you depressed and feeling hopeless, but tomorrow is another day. Each day, week, month can bring something new and wonderful into your life and you don't want to miss it. Just keep hanging on and trying your best. Do all that you can do to make yourself and your surroundings better and happier and leave those things that are completely out of your hands to God. I pray that something I may have said has helped and please I beg you don't give up, talk with someone, confide in a responsible person who you trust and ask them for help and tell them you just can't deal with it on your own anymore. Don't keep it all inside. I also pray that you will finally find something that will help you to sleep at night, something that will work for you. You may also want to try to listen to some music or sounds of the ocean or nature, this may help to relax you and let you get some zzzzzzzzz's. God Bless you and Please take care of yourself, Remember You have your whole life in front of you, don't give up on it Please. Take care and I wish you the best of luck with your insomnia and that your problems in life will become lighter and easier to bear. You can make it!!!!! Just keep trying and taking a minute at a time if you have too. Again God Bless and Take care! Give yourself a big hug of love and say I CAN MAKE IT, WITH GOD'S HELP, I CAN MAKE IT, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!
