What do you think about online dating? Lately that has become very popilar to look for a date/partner through online dating sites like perfectmatch.com, My Space, facebook, ect. but does that really work to look for a potential relationship through that way?...

.I mean I think in a way its kinda corny that someone would wanna look for their potential "soulmate" or lover, boyfriend/girlfriend, partner, ect through the internet instead of meeting someone in a more natural and casual way like at school, college, work, church, mall, park, ect...Not only that but its kinda like awkward arranging a meeting with someone u dont know online to meet with them face to face and probably both of them thinking in the back of their minds that when they meet they will get probably get intimate, you know what I mean? instead of meeting somone in like a chance encounter at a park(per say)....

Have any of you done the online dating thing? through which sites and how did it work out for you?

Yes it worked for me. We both met on Friendster - I didn't switch off the 'who has viewed my profile' function and found that this guy I do not know found my profile. So we started messaging each other on the site, then chatted on MSN and emails. Slowly it developed into phone calls and mobile messages. After 3 months of that, we met up - and it started from there. Anyway there was mutual attraction even before we met up. We would talk on the phone over every small thing that happened every day.Now we live together, and our families know about us.

A note of caution - there are lots of creeps out there looking for one-night-stands and pretending to be what they aren't. Just be careful, always meet up in public and never follow him back in his car on the first few dates. If in doubt, suggest that he bring his friend and you bring yours.

There are also people looking for flings on the Net, casual relationships in other words. They may start off to be Mr. or Miss Nice, then after sleeping with you and finding that you aren't really what they want, they will just leave and never call again. I have never experienced this, but have friends who have - so be careful.

Not only is it weird, but it is very dangerous. There are so many people that have been scammed by online dating that it is a scary situation. They can put up pictures of anyone and say that it is them. They can lie to you about everything, and you would never know it. Some have even talked people into giving them money or doing favors for them that cost them their life savings. Look up online scams, and you will see what I mean.

Well I met my gf online--on yahoo 360, got to know her as best I could that way, then met her, dated, and moved in with her! We've lived together now for 8 months! Didn't plan this thing though, just kinda happened!

Online dating has worked out for several people that I know of... I personally found my partner via a chat room... it is much more common than it used to be.

I suppose that if people have tried and failed at meeting people in an actual social setting that they may try internet dating as a last resort so to speak. i know that Yahoo! personals has worked for someone I know, also eHarmony is a good one.
