With a total of 5,499 members there, and a total of 0 active members (people that actually go to church), is it really worth the continuing effort for missionaries to go there?

I got my numbers from the cumorah project. www.cumorah.com
I have a spreadsheet of all the data if you would like to see it.

Activity is not low, it's non-existent.

I think too many people there are smokin the weed, man. Maybe the missionaries too.

Idaho gal, I'm only going by the numbers they show on the cumorah project. They seem to be a reliable source. You're suggesting that they just don't report their numbers there or something?

Thank you, "sir network". It would be great if we could get clarification on this issue. I would hate for a site that seems so accurate with details to get discredited for one little thing.

My branch is part of the Kingston Jamaica Mission. I can assure you that the work is progressing nicely. There are many active members of the church there and between 60-80 full time missionaries.

The work is worth continuing regardless of whether or not people accept the message. Preaching the Gospel is a blessing to both the messenger and those who hear it.

Here you go:

UPDATE1:
Response from the Cumorah project:
"There are 20 (19) congregations in Jamaica, and obviously it is not possible
to sustain congregations without active members. The '0' active
members figure is an error. We are currently designing an expanded
cumorah.com international database for release early next year and the
maintenance of the old has been neglected. My apologies for the error.

The 30-35% overall worldwide activity rate cited in the discussion,
however, appears to be quite accurate. You can find accurate
referenced data on LDS activity rates around the world in my book, the
Law of the Harvest, online at cumorah.com, right-hand column.

It is important to note that the Church acknowledges that membership
numbers do not convey any claims of member activity or participation,
just as is the case for Catholics, Baptists, and many other
denominations. There are theological and scriptural reasons why the
Church does not excommunicate or remove people from the rolls simply
because they no longer attend church. There was an article to this
effect in the June 2007 Ensign.

You are welcome to post my full reply on the Yahoo answers discussion if you wish.

Best Wishes,
David Stewart"

UPDATE 2:
Response from the Jamaican mission:
"There are four districts and 19 (20) branches of the Church in Jamaica, all
holding regularly attended meetings and other church activities.
Elder Duane E. Hiatt and Sister Sharon J. Hiatt
Public Affairs missionaries for the Caribbean Area"

Yes, the church is still sending missionaries there.
I'm assuming that this is an input error. Why else would they still have (20) 19 branches and active missionaries? Common sense says that such a massive depopulation would have made the news.

There are a total of 21 branches and wards in Jamaica. To have that many there would have to be more then 0 active members. Even if you had just the minimum active members required to support 21 branches and wards that would still be at least 2000 active members. While that is only about 1/3 of the member number you list it is not like you are trying to make it look.

Miracles do not create thoughts of actuality. faith creates thoughts of actuality. MIracles save on with faith. Even the miracles achieved by using the Savior did not create many converts. That in simple terms got here from diligent obedience via the years to the Lord's teachings. If each and every of the partakers of Jesus' miracles have been real converts, they might have secure him in the process the tortures of the atonement, yet even his twelve disciples fled in worry and did not very own the braveness of their convictions till after the Holy Ghost stumbled on them and that's recorded that recommendations-blowing issues have been perceived by using the multitude at what's usually used through fact the Day of Pentecost. the persons then observed that the potential that they had seen Jesus do replaced into now fallen on those twelve adult men. Likewise, different prophets lacked super convert followings based upon miracles on my own. That reported, Christ informed his disciples to bypass into each and every of the international, coaching each and every being that they might all be partakers of the heavenly present. The Church of Jesus Christ does not bypass out into each and every of the international just to advance club. which would be an somewhat selfish and incorrect element to do. We carry forth to all of the international on the grounds that's what the Lord informed us to do and because all of us understand that in simple terms in the process the gospel of Jesus Christ and the ordinances of the priesthood can mankind be saved interior the dominion of God. we attempt to emulate the affection of Christ for anybody. the way we tutor that love is by using sharing the gospel truths with each and every of the international and endeavoring to make the reward of the gospel obtainable to all of God's little ones. i understand the fee of the gospel in my existence and that i choose to share that fee with you and with all others that care to verify what we could grant.

Missionaries go to all countries that they can legally proselyte in. Just because activity is low does not mean that they will discontinue the Lord's work.

I think so. Missionaries go every where except china and the middle east.

Maybe they get down to Jamaica and get converted themselves to the Jamaican Lifestyle, instead of the other way around.
