I was wondering, if a single parent is dating a barracks soldier, is there a reg against the single soldier basically moving in with the single parent?

Sorry, I left this part out. Its on post housing. I mean, government housing on-post. Its the exact same distance and... I'm MEDDAC, Our barracks policy states When available, inspections must be announced 24 hours in advance. But, since i wouldn't be moving off-post to stay with someone, would it be allowed?

I see that only one person addressed the issue of the housing policy and the rest worried about the barracks persons status. Every post I have lived at housing policy has stated that a non- dependent pperson can only stay in the house for 30 days. As the other erson said id you nabors don't call the chain of command or housing and complain you could get away with it longer. It is up to the local command to let soldiers under the rank of E-6 live off post and collect BAH most of the time this policy depends on the space available in the barracks, The persons rank, and if they have had any disciplinary issues. For instance while at Fort Leonard Wood the barracks were being remodeled so the post Moved all E-6's off post, moved the E-4's and E-5's in the houses that the E6's were in and left it up to the chain of command to decide if some of the E-4's could receive BAH and move off post. The E-5's were allowed to make the choice. So as some others have stated Yes in most cases he has to keep a room in the barracks and no he is not allowed to stay in you house as a resident. only a visitor for no more than 30 days. it would be wise to read you local housing policy

In my company, it wasn't allowed, but it wasn't strictly enforced either. My roommate was dating a single parent, and he'd spend nights there. As long as he shows up in the morning for PT on time, or is able to be contacted (we all have cellphones) in the event of a 3am piss test, he's fine. It's not allowed, in the sense that single soldiers below a certain rank can't receive separate rations, housing allowance, etc. Even if they get a place off base with their base pay, they still have to keep a barracks room.

It depends on the rank. If the soldier is in the army, for example,...and he/she is an E-4 or below,...the 1st Sergeant will sometimes restrict "junior" soldiers from living offpost. In some cases the 1st Sergeant will give a soldier a waiver to live offpost. The prob is single soldiers (in the army in this case) have barracks duties and surprize inspections to deal with so if the soldier decides to live off post without the permission, he/she can face disciplinary action if an inspection occurs,...for example,...and he/she isnt there to make that inspection. So sometimes you have to deal with curfews as well. Best course of action,..in my opinion, is get with the 1st Sergeant and let him/her know you want to live off post and go from there. Hope this helps.

wellll.. regs state he must maintain the Barracks room. Lots of people do so as well as live elsewhere, its done all the time.

the biggest snag is the on post housing. you are NOT authorized to live there, and the Single Parent is NOT authorized to have long term guests/roomies/partners.

they could get kicked out of MFH if the Housing office got wind of it and decided to make an example of them.

I am a bit confused. Is this single parent military because how else is she living on onpost housing? If she is a soldier then becareful with regulations.

But yeah I don't see why you couldnt move in with her.

As long as he is maintaining his barracks room no one is going to care. However he is no going to get paid for living off base

the only thing is that it states that you can only have a guest for a period of 30 days.............and I am sure you are well aware that you have neighbors with little else to do but watch what others are doing......and they will see him coming and going..............

whilst I am sure that for a period of time you will be able to get away with it at some point you WILL get turned in to base housing for it, sad but true.

regards and just make sure that you cover your bases as best as you can...............
