They have just recently come up with 3 great meds that are not habit-forming! But you need a prescription, which should be no problem at all. just be open and honest with your doctor. They are Ambien CR, Lunesta, and Rozerem. I really one of those will help you. If not, I can help you. My mother had Chronic insomnia from ages 9-60. She finally found help through a sleep clinic. Send me an E-mail. Then you can keep it and E me if one of those 3 meds don't work for you. You don't want to get addicted to those other sleeping pills, as you know. I really can help you with a little more complicated way to cure insomnia. But I have to stress to try one of these other 3 first. I look forward to hearing from you. Lynn :)

There are the usual remedies - no alcohol or large meals within 2 hours of bedtime, have some warm milk, avoid caffiene (so no cocoa in that milk - honey is nice), have light exercise between dinner and bed (walking, swimming...). Don't have daytime naps because your "circadian rythyms" (day/night patterns) get disturbed.
Was there something you used to get up for that has stopped? Shift work, a baby? My insomnia kicked in when my child started sleeping through the night.
Are you depressed or angry? Insomnia is sometimes due to depression. I had to go onto anti-depressants, and they certainly make me sleep well.

You should go to a massage therapist, or try meditation. Listening to nature sounds(my favorite thunderstorms, rain) puts me right to sleep. Exercise, yoga, swimming, running, and walking. all these will help you.

Time to see your Dr.
not all problems are fixed with pills.
You could very well overcome this with just knowledgeable advice

Have you considered a sleep study? I had one, and they found out I had sleep apnea. Just a thought.
