My 12 year old sister just tried out for cheerleading this year. She didn't make it. I have been a cheerleader all my life and I promised her to help her this year. I want to start training her now so she will be ready this time. Any advice on stretches/diets/exercise etc. or just advice on cheeleading.
She is 12 but will be 13 for tryouts next year. She is not very flexible so i want to get her to be more flexible and she is a little overweight. She is 5"4 and weighs 150 lbs. please help this really means alot to her

The key to flexibility is to start slowly and keep at it. As a cheerleader, don't you stretch before practice? Start doing you stretching routine once a day with your sister. Even if she's not very flexible at the start, by the time tryouts come up again, she should improve. Also work on rhythm, counting music and helping her control her movements and keep them sharp.

On the other hand, even if someone really wants it and practices, some people will never have the motor skills to be a good cheerleader. Just like some people will never be good at drawing or writing poetry. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Good luck to your sister, and good for you for wanting to help her...but if she can't make the team, perhaps you can encourage her in her own unique talent.

150 and 12??? Jesus!

I'm 15, 5'7", and 117 lbs.

What you have to do is lose weight. Even a lot of muscle can't lift all that flab for jumps.

Do V-ups, side kicks with arms in a T motion, and sit with your legs separated, lift them, and do little circles. this will build muscle.

Teach her how to do motions, and some of the workouts you do in cheerleading. You are a cheerleader, right?
