What would you advise for how US immigration policy should be?

2007-08-05 18:15:51 · 10 answers · asked by ♥ ~Sigy the Arctic Kitty~♥ 7 in Politics & Government Immigration

lizzie ann, I ask because I am interested in ideas that people who are from Mexico or who's family came from Mexico may have about improving immigration.

If you want to ask this same question to all aliens, I will be happy to answer.

Sergio and El Chile: You and lizzie ann may be both right that my question should be generalised.

Moody Trojans; I don't do that. You can look at my Q&A history and ask around if you like..

Note to : I am an immigrant and I'm not asking about illegal Mexican immigrants I'm asking the views of people with Mexican ethnicity who are familiar with the system and may have a different experience and diferent ideas than the average europeans, k?

Dear Sigy,
I appreciate you start asking questions to have more ideas about how to solve the problem. Many of the answers above instead of devoting their time to actually responding your question, they start arguing about other things or criticizing the way you structured it. People sometimes are more focused to judge and evaluate if what you said is right or not, rather than to think in the content and reflect on the question you are rising.

I personally believe that if the US immigration policy genuinly wants to focus in how to diminish immigrants specifically from Mexico, they should consider the following:

- I would 'change' the issue of the situation. Rather than to think in illegal immigrants, I would think of illegal workers. If you see it in this way, perspective changes dramatically. The US immigration policy should focus primarily in avoid illegal workers rather than in illegal immigrants. It should make sure no one in American soil should work underpaid and receiving less benefits than those dictated by law. I know it may sound funny, but stay with me on this, and on the end you will find out what I am suggesting.

- Focus on the people's motives rather than in their actions. Why does this people, who are not criminals, are willing to leave their families, exposing themselves to get in jail or to die in the desert? Rather to focus in stopping the people who already left their houses and are about to enter the US, they should focus in the people that are just about to. These guys are leaving their towns because they're desperate and they don't see any other way to solve their economical problems, hence, they move to US not to live in the US, but to WORK there. Actually -no offense- but a lot of Mexicans hate living in the US, but they see that they have to go there if they want to have a job, or a job that pays much more than what they would get back in Mexico (have you heard of "remesas"???). So, if by any chance, US immigration policy might motivate Mexican, American and Canadian investors to improve the terrible socio-economical situations of the towns where most of the immigrants are from, that might help diminish the amount of people trying to ilegally cross the border.

- Mexican seasonal immigration to the US has existed for decades. This is not something about the past 20 years, this is something going on for over half a century. Many of the Mexicans now leaving the country saw their grandfather leave to US, then his father, probably his older brother, and now, when they’re reaching their 20s, their getting prepped to do the same. There are towns in Mexico where there are almost no male figures since all the guys have already left to the States. This is alarming, but then again, this is generational, and it is hard to break habits. Hence, the US immigration policy should motivate the Mexican government, together with other non-governmental organizations, to break this pattern in people’s mind. I think this should be mainly via education (primary and secondary schools) and promoting the benefits of having a whole family together, rather than sending the father and the older sons kilometers away from home. Naturally, in order for this to succeed, the first suggestion should take place.

- There’s no supply if there’s no demand. If American companies in the US would not demand for cheap labor, no cheap labor supply would exist. If the cheap labor that some US companies are looking for is beneath the minimum salary, then Americans would not like to work there hence American companies would look out for foreign people to join in at such miserable salaries. This means that if we imagine we actually stop Mexican migration to the US, then people from other countries might start to flock into the US in order to substitute the supply that the Mexican labor stopped offering, in order to fill the demand of cheap labor from American companies. Therefore, the US Immigration policy should encourage American companies to pay what it should be so jobs in the US should primarily be filled by Americans and then –if necessary- by immigrants working LEGALLY in the US. It is very similar to drug consumption: If the US doesn’t do something to stop drug consumption rather than drug traffic, drug traffic will always exist because there will always be someone out there willing to satisfy the demand for drug consumption in the country.

That is why I think US immigration policy should be around controlling workers in both sides of the border (maybe there are some Americans that would like to do business in Mexico and hence move over here, you never know), very similar to what the European Union did over there.

Most importantly, the US immigration policy should entirely DISENCOURAGE any kind of bigotry, grudge or hatred to foreign people, because new social problems arise.

Hope you found it helpful.

they don't. although, there's a minority of Mexican-individuals who're into the entire "Aztlan" delusion that asserts that their historic Aztec ancestors initially got here from what's now the Southwestern U.S. and that now that's their job to supposedly reconquer it for a renewed Aztec Empire or some bogus concept. on the different end of the spectrum, i've got additionally encountered Mexican-individuals who claimed to be completely Spanish while they have been needless to say mestizos. i think of the biggest reason distinctive Mexicans ought to take extra beneficial delight of their community American ancestry than Spanish is by technique of the fact generally, the Spaniards by no potential extremely customary the mestizos through their blended origins. community individuals on the different hand have been extra receptive.

I have answered this type of question before. The person that asked was just looking for people to cut down.
Most of the illegals are brown skin Indians and mestizos from Mexico.Only White Americans do not want them here. White Mexicans want them out of Mexico. The illegals are living in poverty in Mexico or countries further south. They do not have the means or money to become legal Americans. I am not talking about poverty like in the USA. The illegals do not have running water with inside bathrooms or electricity . If they have a home it is barely a home.

I`m not Mexican, but the implanting of chips to track illegals would be a good idea. The criminals especially,so the policy would be you have to be implanted or you can`t come here.

i think the immigration system should be made simpler and more efficient as to influence more immigrants to come legally

i have mexican ancestry myself. my parents are here legally and i was born into america. so i know a little of both worlds.

While there are illegals from many different countries, I agree with how you are asking about people with Mexican ancestry. ALMOST ALL illegals are from Mexico.

I really don't care where the illegal comes from. I am just as angry about the Canadian illegal as I am about the Mexican illegal. Both are criminals for breaking the law and they shouldn't be here. THAT'S THE LAW.

A thumbs down for my statements doesn't change their truth!

Lizzie Ann is right , you should generalize , including all the other countries , anyway, one of the problems that I see is the hassle of waiting in line forever to get accepted legally to live in America . as a legal resident . it is easier to get a coyote friend to get you across. than be forever waiting for a resolution that may take years , while your family dies of starvation , I know it is wrong but it is also a reality . if only access to a visa wasn't so hard it ill be no so much illegal immigration . just my opinion.

it isnt just mexicans who come to america to live a better life. there are people from all over the world who come here. so i think you should direct your question to everyone who is an immigrant. just isolating one ethnic group of people shows that you are a bit ignorant.

and to dog tricks- we are not trying to beat her down. it just isnt fair to specify one race over another. there are just as many other nationalities that come into america. im just making a point that isolating just ONE race over another is not just.
